“This episode popped up as I looked for Googie related podcasts. After realizing what exactly I loved about mid century modern was Raygun/Googie designs and lines, this show helped fill in some of the history that supports the era of this style. In 2015 I spent a year in LA and was pleasantly surprised at the architectural remnants left behind and preserved from this hopeful, optimistic, futuristic movement. A place that I don’t think you talked about where I actually spent time on a set was at Rae’s Restaurant. It has been featured in a plethora of films and even Elton John’s album “Songs From The West Coast”. It’s pretty great. Even Bruno would appreciate it.”

“And just wanted to correct one thing - “laowai” is basically just foreigner, “gweilo” is more similar to the “white ghost” connotation, though it still doesn’t really specify whiteness though often used toward white foreigners”
