“I am living an Australian living in Spain. I am 67 and entitled to a state pension. But apparently if you don’t live in Australia you can’t get a Australian state pension.
I would like to know when this changed because my Father was entitled to his New Zealand Pension when he came to join his children in Australia, and my Mother was entitled to her British one in Australia.
I assumed that if the NZ and the UK gave their duel citizens pensions when they lived overseas that Australia was the same.
I don’t understand why this should not happen. I lived and worked and payed tax in Australia for over the 30 or more years required and I wanted to retire where my extended family lives in the EU.
I would think that many older duel citizens would feel the same as they got older they will want to be close to family. I certainly know of a few and they did not realize that they could not get a pension if they left Australia.
Once we were proudly calling ourselves a multicultural country. And a country like ours full of immigrant's why should you not allow those immigrants to retire where ever they like.
Also since Australia seems to be so nasty about imigrants these days they should be happy for them to leave when they retire. After all they are not a drain on any of the social services that older citizens require. I for instance have to pay €180 a month medical insurance here in EU and now I can’t even get the Australian pension I’m due.
It would seem to me a much cheaper option to get rid of us and cheap after we had worked and benefited Australia and now that we are likely to be a burden (especially as we don’t have our extended families in Australia). So we are going to end up alone in nursing homes when our extended families in other countries would love us to join them and our pensions can pay for our food and board.
Anyway I think this should make a good podcast if you can find out what was the reasoning to changing this . And if the Australian Government has ever considered the financial savings they would make if only half of us retired immigrants lived out of the country. or for that matter any Australian who wanted to live somewhere else when they retire it should be encouraged.
After all if I have to return I will eventually need carer services as I’m single with no children and most of my family live here overseas. I am seriously worried that I cannot continue to live here when my savings come to an end.”Read full review »

“I love Phillip as a broadcaster. Great topics. If you want to hear ridiculous left wing arguments please tune in. One of my faves is bashing borders as if we are supposed to let people free flow in to our systems which citizens have a vested interest. Supposed to just pick up the tab for the...”Read full review »

“It sounds like David Marr is licking his lips? Eating gum? Chewing? It’s gross. Great interviews but I can’t listen with that noise constantly on my earbuds.”
