Whoa!  I did not expect that score! It has been so long since I did anything "official" in the German language. I keep up with it by reading and listening weekly, to news or stories, etc.   the Placement Test on DW is quite interesting. You should give it a try as well.   Looking for a language tutor? go to iTalki here https://www.italki.com/affshare?ref=af13063809 #german #placement test #deutsch #dw --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/slowbydesigns/message

So, it's my first time to take an online German placement test. I visit the Deutsche Welle website at least monthly just to read something in German. I recently was poking around the site and was reminded that they have German material for learning the language. There I saw the Placement Tests. I decided to take the A1 test.  After learning German in Austria some years ago and basically not studying it since then, although I regularly read and listen in German to maintain, I was curious how...

Reading auf Deutsch is such a release. I don't really know what it is about it, but I get pleasure and a sense of relaxing for the time I'm reading. This is Story number 7 from Märchen und Erzählungen für Anfänger, click on the title to look at the book for yourself. I'm half way through that book for beginners learning to read and comprehend in German. It was such a a surprise when I first discovered this book. I had know idea that teachers sought to simplify learning a foreign language 100...

I am now working on completing all 5 levels in each Topic of UNIT 2 in Duolingo-Norwegian. Today's installment is three lessons long:  1. Definitive Plural 2. The Cafe 3. Counting I noticed these three topics had cracks in the golden shields, so this was a review and repair episode.  What are you studying and how fluent are you now? The title of this poem is a fairly well-known saying in English, but how many know that the saying comes from a poem? Do you know that it comes from a poem? I'm personally that guy who always sees the negative. I wish I was more like the woman, the man's wife (presumably) who slept soundly, "waited to see", and didn't look for problems before they cropped up. So, the reading is more a public reminder to myself to hold my tongue when tempted to blurt out all the negatives that might be but...

What do you think of my FAIL? Pretty bad, eh? Even the Review from Unit 2 was quite awful. Some days are like that. If you would leave a comment or simply like this episode that (Follow?) would be swell. Tell your friends about it as well.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/learnitslow/message

Warum soll ich Deutsche Geschichte vorlesen? Weil ich mag Deutsch. Punkt. Und, um meine Vokabular zu verbreiten und meine Aussprache zu verbessern. Diese Geschichte heute geht um einen Pfeifer. Bitte zuhören um meine Aussprache zu kritsieren. Du kannst mich auslachen. Oder nur kein Mensch zu diesem Podcast zuhören. Ich mag diese Geschichte weil ich lerne noch besser wie Plural formen und die Vergangenheit besser zu konjugieren.  https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/35794 --- Send in a voice...

Duolingo is a pretty good play to pick up vocabulary. It's not the only way I get language learning done but it is a starting place.  This lesson features the INTRO. lesson. I go through the Legendary Challenge. (Not sure what is up with today's misuse of words...I thought lots of people had to know about someone to make them legendary. Or maybe the challenges are legendary, but they just came out with these in the summer, right? It's just a little peeve of mine.) Spoiler: I passed INTRO's...

This story is taken from book of Fairy Tales and Narratives written just for beginners. The Title of which is Märchen und Erzählungen für Anfänger, edited by H. A. Guerber. These stories are all great if you are looking for a better understanding of how to build up sentences with an ever increasing vocabulary. What they are not is a set of ground-breaking forms of literary genius. Although, I happen to think highly of them in terms of useful educational material. :) They are repetitive, but...

Initially I had planned on two lessons, but as I finished the second I thought to go on. That way, I could finish out Unit 1. This episode contains the last four lessons in Unit 1 of Doulingo's Norwegian course. 1. Food 2 2. People 3. Definites 4. Plurals How many of you have done enough of the course to read in Norwegian? Can anyone hold a conversation after completing the course (or before completing)? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/learnitslow/message

What can be said? Learning a language is rough work, with difficulties in correct pronunciation, or at least good enough that someone can understand what you are saying. Not only that, but you must master sufficient vocabulary to give yourself a chance at being able to enter into conversation in the first place. And finally, Grammar.  It seems that Duolingo is a good place to begin with vocabulary. After which, start reading books away from the app to increase understanding and pick up more...

From a book titled, Märchen und Erzählungen für Anfänger Der Pfannkuchen gets it right. There are many opportunities to learn and understand how a word or phrase is used. This is a German learner reading a short Tale. From a book for beginners learning German, Märchen und Erzählungen, comes story #3 titled: Der Hausvater. These stories all are effectively lessons in Vocabulary and Grammar. They aren't just another set of engaging stories. As the editor relates in the Preface, they are carefully written to repeat throughout so as to help the reader better remember the vocabulary.  Have you ever heard about people that are professional reciters? That is, those who train their brains to remember vast...

I've never taken Norwegian lessons apart from the lessons I've completed in Duolingo. This is purely and exercise for fun. How many of you learn a language only for fun? There is one other motivation, but it has no bearing of me being able to speak it. Because many of my ancestors were Norwegian it would be fun to read and speak in their mother tongue.  This episode consists of: Introducing the episode Animals Actions1 Some comments about learning Norwegian, again My general...

This story comes from a German reader for beginners. Really, it for the elementary level and specifically if you have a basic knowledge of German. It is repetitive in the sense that one reads the same and nearly the same sentences multiple times throughout the story.  Take a look at it for yourself. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/35794 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/learnitslow/message

There's a great book for German learners who already have a decent grasp of the language to practice.  Märchen und Erzählungen für Anfänger, by: H. A. Guerber Fairy Tales for Beginners is a book specifically written and designed for learners of German. They don't write stories like this nowadays. It is worth your while to check out. With all the repetition you are likely to remember more grammar and vocabulary. The author continually makes reminders of initial vocab. and grammar in a...

Learning a language is good for the brain. I have learned German and Chinese. Now on to Norwegian. Although I speak other languages I'm always nervous about doing it. However, I thought it would be interesting to put this out there for others to hear. Who else is learning Norwegian?

Hi and welcome! This podcast is not really about language or reading helpful stories. It is not really about learning vocabulary. The purpose of this podcast is to let out some long-time, pent-up steam. I have always liked learning languages and have been conversant in German for about 15 years now. Chinese is something of a chance encounter but am not able to get around but not quite able to hold my own. Not too long after going abroad to learn German I had realized that Norwegian would be...
