Well-researched, interestingly-told stories.

Finding this podcast has opened my eyes to the danger of Cults. The definitions that Sarah gives really show the similarities between cult leaders.
sharky852 via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 05/08/20
Incredible depth of research and excellent production values for a serious podcast about cults (the others I listen to are all comedy-based). I always come away with details missed elsewhere.

A wonderfully well-researched podcast presenting clear, informative cases!

The host makes a wonderful job of the research and story telling. It’s such a pleasure to hear a balanced, fair but uncompromising account of what goes on within sects. I really enjoy the voice and accent of the host by the way!

Lots of research obviously goes into each episode. Sarah perfectly balances facts and ex-member’s experiences, and encourages empathy and compassion for those involved in cults. Also, her voice is very soothing!

In a cluttered world of podcasts, this is one to which I always return. There’s always an amazing cautionary tale to interest and inform. Sarah’s commitment to factual, anti-sensational reporting treats every subject with partisanship and respect ... and her voice is never less than dulcet !

I was recommended this podcast recently and after 2 episodes I subscribed and started listening from the beginning! I find the subject of cults to be very interested but the big ones have all been told many times. I appreciate the angle the host tales of focusing on smaller, less known, cult...Read full review »

I revisited this episode in the context of the ABC TV series currently screening on Sunday nights, Stateless, which Sarah mentions in passing was under development while she was doing her own investigations of Kenja. I also revisited the article Robert Manne wrote for The Monthly nearly 15 years...Read full review »

This podcast is well researched, well written, and Sarah shows a deep concern for the victims affected by the groups she discusses. She details the histories of these groups and their leaders without being sensational or exaggerating anything to generate drama. The sound quality is great and the...Read full review »

This series is superbly researched (with citations), often features interviews w people who have first-hand knowledge, comes complete w clear content warnings and is reported, without exception, in a very responsible, careful and informative way. However, the element that makes this podcast...Read full review »

Sarah’s podcasts are fascinating. - with a common thread of people walking naively into exploitative cults. And power - how manipulative and greedy pretty much every cult leader exposed in this series is! They’re not in it to provide a benefit, healing, enlightenment, whatever to any of...Read full review »

This is a really interesting podcast and Sarah is such a thoughtful and empathetic presenter. The content warnings are done really well with clear outlines of when to check in and out to avoid triggering content. Highly recommend!

Interesting case studies, especially with an Australian angle that doesn’t get heard on other cult-themed podcasts

I listen to this podcast because I want research into cults, not because I want to hear the host pontificate about how the tolerant should have the right to suppress those they deem intolerant. If I wanted an essay on that, I’d browse the Political tag on Tumblr. (You’ll note I do not do this,...Read full review »

The material is interesting, but it sounds like she is reading a script the entire time. It’s a weird dynamic. Podcast are normally a platform were you listen to others having a conversation. This sounds like the news is being read to me.

I love these! Really engrossing, detailed and respectful of what is a very sensitive topic. I feel like I’ve learnt a lot about how people get taken in by cults, which I never really “got” before. I find the delivery excellent, it matches the tone of the content really well.

Glad for the content detail and the hard work.put in- but slower narration would improve this as it’s it’s a bit wooden. Iit sounds rushed . One example is the podcaster in ‘true crime podcast casefile where slow narration really works to draw you in. Keep it up though !
