Freaking Awesome
I'm not sure what took me so long to write this, but at last, I am getting off my fat butt and doing it! I will try to keep it clean so Cato the Apple Censor will maybe pass it through. I am an avid history wonk, a listener to Ray's WW2 pod, Mike Duncan's stuff, Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, and have ripped through Cameron's Napoleon saga twice. When I stumbled across the Life of Caesar pod, my drive to work changed considerably. It is far too dangerous for others on the road, as I weave in and out of my lane, trying to control my laughter, and not wet my pants. When Life of Alexander was announced, I jumped on board at the Diadochi contributor level, and have not regretted a dime of it. So it set me back a few bucks, big deal, I can drink crappy beer for a few months and lay off the Sam Adams to make up for it. Don't cheap out people, this stuff takes time to produce, and Ray & Cam gotta eat too. The guys are not, however, just a couple of amateur hacks (compliment). They obviously put a boatload of time into research, and produce some epic (long) episodes. Ray should run for President, and Cameron should start impersonating Demosthenes and read his speeches out loud on street corners. Some negative reviews are inevitable. They are mostly from self-important, over-erudite prudes who whine for a more "serious" approach, to idiotic bible-thumping conservo-crazies, who wouldn't recognize humor if it jumped up and donkey-kicked them in the melon. As Sergeant Hulka immortally said in Stripes, "Lighten up, Francis". If you love history, and have a sense of humor, this pod is for you. Cam, you have vaulted to #2 in my list of "Who I want to have a beer with before I die". Sorry man, Richard Dawkins is still #1. You would be #3 behind Christopher Hitchens, but he's dead, so congratulations! If you ever visit Boston, the beers are on me. You too Ray! And now, I am off to write a similarly long and tedious review for Life of Caesar!Read full review »

This is a hilarious show filled with in-depth knowledge of a tumultuous period of history known ONLY as the Age of Heroes. The modern dialogue translated into these historical circumstances is awesome and I for one am so happy I get to listen to this. Right on!
