It's fiction.
For anyone else who may be confused... it's fake. I had listened to almost all the first episode before I thought I needed to look it up to see if it was a real story. Earlier in the first episode, during the senate hearing, I thought fleetingly that it had to be fiction, and ended up checking later because something near the end sounded more like acting than genuine surprise. (So the actors do need to work on that, because it sounds at least in parts as though it's being read or poorly acted.) I unsubscribed from the podcast once I found out it was fiction. The producers have tried really hard to mislead listeners, as far as I'm concerned, and I don't like being led to believe that it was a true story. I've since learned that it says on the website that it's a fictional story, but the producers of this podcast go out of their way to make sure people think it's real. As a general rule I don't look at podcast websites, so I may never have seen that note of it being fiction. However, the description of the podcast--which I read on three different podcatchers, as I rarely subscribe to podcasts via iTunes--describe the podcast as a report by an American Public Media reporter. There's no mention in the podcast description or that of the individual episodes suggesting in any way that it's fictional, so it's purposeful.Read full review »

I don't know how I stumbled across this podcast but I did so without realizing that it was fiction. My thoughts on the first episode were that it was entirely overproduced and that the journalist was attempting to be Sarah Koenig. I listend to the second episode and not five minutes in said...Read full review »

This podcast is gripping, emotional, and so very smart. I connected with the story instantly, and became deeply invested in the journey of fictional journalist Lia Haddock as she unravels the mysterious fate of Limetown. This isn't the subtle whodunit truth of "Serial"—this is a...Read full review »
