Minister Purochan had been instructed by Duryodhan to construct a highly inflammable house at Vaarnaavat with only one entry / exit at the front and no other escapes. Purochan was at Vaarnaavat to receive the Paandav brothers and their mother Kuntee. Initially, they stayed at a different camp and ten days later moved to the house, called Shivbhavan, especially constructed to house the Paandavs. Immediately on moving there, Yuddhishthir knew that the house could catch fire any time. He told the same to Bheem who was furious and wanted to get out immediately. Yuddhishthir explained to him the practical situation and stressed on the need to build a tunnel to escape from the house. Purochan’s room was at the entrance. An expert miner or tunnel-digger sent by Vidur approached them soon and started the work of tunnel digging. The work took about one year. During this time, Paandavs used to spend their days in the forest hunting and in the evening used to stand guard on Purcohan to ensure that he did not burn down the house. When the tunnel was complete, Paandavs and Kuntee escaped from the tunnel while Bheem burnt down the house.
