It’s just not the same. My 5 stars are now, sadly, 1 star. Bring the old host back and it’ll go back to 5 stars. Deal?

This new host is so false and she lacks the warmth and depth of Meg Nachakavarty I don’t like her interview style and her little comments are so false Not crazy about the new format either Change for the sake of change isn’t a good thing In the past would have rated 5 stars easy Now one star at most

I understand that there must be an audience who enjoys this new format, otherwise they wouldn’t continue to make episodes this way, but in that case, can there be a second Modern Love podcast where it’s like the original? Just reading the essays from the column? There is something really powerful...Read full review »

They are published in NYT because they’re beautifully written, sometimes the stories themselves aren’t as amazing as the way they’re constructed and written. This ‘deconstruction’ doesn’t work and it’s a shame

I love listening to these emotional love stories. Whether they have sad or happy endings they are always moving This is from someone that usually listens to true crimes. It’s a nice escape from murders.

I never leave reviews but I felt compelled to do so because I don’t understand if I missed something. Where are the essays ? Why are we not hearing the writing and only getting interviews now ? I fell in love with this newspaper column as a young adult and have enjoyed the podcast the last couple...Read full review »

I’m not liking this new format where it’s now just an interview and excerpts of the essay. The first few seasons were great and as new season come out I don’t find it is nearly as interesting as it was before.

I used to be a weekly listener, I loved the essays, that’s the reason I listened. The interview at the end was always a plus, it gave the essays closure. I do not like the new format, the interview takes away from the essay and we’re not getting the whole essay so we don’t really know where these...Read full review »

Please go back to reading the essays. No more AM interviews!
Ih8FB via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/14/23
Missing hearing the whole essays! Not quite as interested in the interviews without the essay, just feels like a typical boring interview podcast otherwise. I used to listen to them all and now I usually skip it unless the essay is being read.

Thanks for making this podcast. The shared humanity always gives me a warm glow.

I used to love this podcast so much and have recommended it to so many people. Please don’t do away with reading the complete essay. That’s what I’m here for. Listening to an interview about an essay I don’t get to hear feels like such a letdown after so many great episodes

This used to be hands down my favourite podcast. But the changes that you are making are distracting, you are centering the host at the expense of the stories. The story telling is no longer about the beautiful writing that made this podcast so unique.

I’m going to echo many other recent reviewers. The original Modern Love podcast was one of my favorites. I am not a fan of the current format at all. Hearing the essay in chunks interspersed with an interview makes the essay lose its magic. Also, please, for the love of everything that is holy,...Read full review »

Been listening to Anna forever and I love her voice! But this new (probably unconscious but very frequent) response “mmmm” is driving me batty and I have to stop listening to the show 😩

Please bring back the old format or at least read the entirety of an essay before beginning the commentary. For example, all I wanted was to hear Jay Shetty’s entire essay. Instead, extracts were read in piecemeal bites between the commentary…

I don’t mind the host, but I dislike her personal anecdotes at the beginning of each episode. I understand that she’s attempting to be relatable, but it doesn’t serve a purpose for me. I also noticed that she’s having the authors read fragments of their essays as opposed to the old format where...Read full review »

Anna Martin is so dynamic and empathetic with her approach to hosting. She meets the writers where they are, which leads to a deeper and more effective conversation. To put it simply, she slays!

I love love, love this podcast! As a love coach myself, I am a total love junkie. I love the human interest stories on this podcast about personal relationships. This is my favorite podcast to listen to on my commute. I used to find it disjointed like the essay reading and the interview after were totally separate. This podcast has lost its charm. In previous seasons, Anna would let the essays speak for themselves. Now we have to sit through several minutes of Anna talking about herself and or interviewing the writer before we even hear the essay. Go back to the old format.

I hate this new format of Modern love. The narrators line of questioning is always off she seems unpolished and clueless. What happened to the original moderator of this show? What is the point of a short story before the primary story? It’s feels very dry and like each episode is stretching to...Read full review »

The encores are bogus. The reading parts of essays then interviewing through it are so bad. This used to be such a poignant podcast that was concise and smart. Anna seems lovely but her interviews are painful. The questions are just like she is a court of law - I need her to cool it especially with the ‘mmm’ and ‘wow’ and ‘how did it make you feeeel’.

Why not just read the beautiful column articles instead of a jumbled confused sequencing that references the articles? I miss the former host and this is a real loss.

I don’t understand what they did to this show, but I haven’t liked a single episode in a couple of years now. It’s taken the focus off the “love” and each episode deals with serious issues that are quite depressing. Also a LOT of episodes about parent/child relationships. Very few romantic...Read full review »

Every week, I listen but notice now inferior the podcast is compared to what it was with Megna- much shorter, briefer discussion with the writer, and without the reflection about why it was chosen. The new formate and host have never come close to Meghan. It, an they just seem very flat. It hard to listen to now. Before I couldn’t wait for a new episode. Now I have to make myself listen and it’s usually way after a “season” that I try to listen. Wish I still loved the show.

What the heck is going on with the incredibly awkward ad placement? I’m fine with ads, but mid-sentence? At one of the most moving parts of the podcast? Ugh. It ruins it.
