“Having devoured Craig Barton's excellent new book, I was keen to investigate his sources. The book refers a lot to his interviews, and I can see why. This is a who's who of great educational thinkers. There is *so* much material here that every maths teacher should be following this podcast.
What is encouraging to me is that I was drawn to his line of thinking by my own experiences, and in direct opposition to the instruction I was given in teacher training. I tried the way I was taught and it doesn't work. Stumbling around for some methodology I came across Willingham and then Sweller. This was the turnng on of a light. Finding Craig Barton's book was like finding the missing manual.
If you think social constructivism is the be-all and end-all of pedagogy then this is probably not the podcast for you (or perhaps it is *exactly* the podcast for you). If you have a sneaking suspicion that yes, perhaps you should be more of a "sage on the stage" than "guide on the side", to use the rather cringeworthy terminology, then subscribe right now.”Read full review »

“Thanks - Craig and Jo - very informative, inspiring and helpful. Glad I’m not the only ‘experienced’ teacher who still spends a lot of time planning and preparing lessons!”
