“I went into this podcast having no prior knowledge of the case. I also interned and then volunteered as an attorney for a wrongful conviction project, so I am always willing to keep an open mind about convictions and genuinely believe people are wrongfully convicted of even the most heinous crimes.
This podcast should be renamed “Kimberly and her family were monsters.” The second and third episodes were just opportunities for Chris’ family to air every single grievance they have/had with Kimberly and her family while blaming her for any and all problems in both the marriage and Chris’ life. I assume the producers of the podcast picked up on some of the concerns from the second episode, because the narrator repeats “this is only Chris’ family’s side of the story” every ten minutes in the third episode. The episodes are literally hours of how awful these people were to every one, and it’s incredibly difficult to listen to. Listeners have not even been given any information up to this point that would make them question the integrity of Chris’ conviction, so it feels like we are listening to the character of a murder victim being ruthlessly trashed. The fact that you included Chris’ parents saying the kids referred to Kimberly as “monster mommy” is beyond disgusting. I cannot fathom how anyone would believe that statement’s inclusion was appropriate on any level.
I rarely write reviews, but I felt that the second and third episodes were so morally repugnant that it warranted a review in addition to a one star rating. Regardless of who the murderer is, Kimberly’s family still has to live with their grief over the loss of their daughter/sister and the children. The third episode will be my last despite the compelling nature of the premise.”
