Nobody else is doing this really
Always pretty interesting but also, sometimes painfully tries too hard to be profound and there is an undercurrent of looking at faith and spirituality through Ms. Tippett's own "Christian" eyes which undermines some of the discussions. Ms. Tippett's voice I found a bit annoying but she is well meaning. The topics, guests, and resulting conversation are all interesting and topical. The show uses a cookie-cutter format (same music ques and same music and sounds every single week for all the different parts of the show; that is annoying too). Presumably actors are used to read literary excerpts under discussion however the voice acting here leaves much to be desired (more of the same "trying too hard" downside of this show along with just plain poor technique. Example, on the show about Einstein, the actor attempted to imitate Einstein's east European voice complete with accent and it just sounded lame; accents are the domain of only the most skilled actors - this actor would have been better off simply voice-acting the lines without ...again, "trying so hard..."). Flawed as it is, this show still is worth tuning into regularly because nobody else around is doing this most important work right now.Read full review »

More reviews of On Being with Krista Tippett
I really enjoy the opportunity to hear the unedited recording along with the produced show. I learn something new with each listen...I often find myself listening to repeat broadcasts and find something completely new with the review.

It's a parade of amazing individuals interviewed by the talented and wise Kristen. Each interview opens a...Read full review »

The interviews would be better if they had someone else doing the talking. Krista's vocal tone is rather too earnest which tends to block serious consideration of what's being said. While It approaches some interesting depth, the depths aren't really plumbed, but then spiritual depth...Read full review »
