"Well plotted piece of non-claptrap". Oh, sorry. That's "On McGyver"
This is a 2015 weekly podcast about a 2013 Netflix series/miniseries. The two year old miniseries is itself a remake of a twenty-five year old BBC weekly evening soap opera. From the middle highbrows of WNYC. What's not to be interested in, right? My judgment of the podcast may be biased by my resentment at its being downloaded automatically to On The Media subscribers, without those subscribers having asked for it, and without their being able to stop getting it. One of the commenters on the On The Media Website said that this is WNYC's attempt to replicate the popularity of the Better Call Saul podcast. That seems to me to capture it: derivative, banal, and pandering--yet snooty and pretentious, all at the same time. So many of public radio's worst qualities, rolled into one podcast.Read full review »
