Why guests? Why callers?
I came to this podcast with great anticipation, given the reviews & my desire to find an incisive and thorough program of news analysis. What a disappointment. Tom Ashbrook seems to be no more (or less) knowledgeable than his NPR colleagues, yet his steering questions and interruptions are so terribly heavy-handed as to be rude to his guests and openly condescending to his callers. His tone to most callers? "You called about one issue, but I want you to tell me about another." I just listened to his "Week in the News" (23 Jan) when he interrupted a woman complementing Michelle Obama's poise and presence as a working mother in the White House; he interrupted her to ask what she thought of the inaugural GOWNS. My computer's clock says '2009,' but perhaps it's '1909.'Read full review »

I used to listen almost exclusively to Talk of the Nation -- not anymore. Tom Ashbrook's 'On Point' is tremendous public radio.
