Anyone who is traveling into the back country? Should listen to this if they do not know about the 10 essentials and hiking safety. Thank you to all the volunteers who are involved in certain rescue. Thankfully, I haven’t needed to be rescued… Yet! You are true heroes.

Why is this podcast not updated when it is fully up to date on the BBC Sounds app?

I really enjoy listening to these podcasts, and have done for years. Such interesting and inspiring themes, beautifully presented and always quality productions. (I wish they’d replace the cover photo though as it’s really not necessary for the view of a ladies rear to represent this series.)

Love the podcast, vaguely irritated by the way the woman on the picture's jeans are tucked in to her bootsRead full review »

One of my absolute favourite podcasts. Helen Mark is an amazingly talented narrator and interviewer, her vivid descriptions and creative questioning bringing scenes to life and fascinating stories out of the people who populate them.

This programme was absolutely fascinating with many perfect descriptions of the quest to find the fledglings in the nest. Not so keen on the vision of a cigar smoking spider though but it did make me laugh! I live in Bulgaria and when I first came here from the uk I strung up peanuts for the...Read full review »

I visited England when I was a teen and especially now with COVID-19 and travel restrictions, I don’t know when I will ever get a chance to come back. Listening to Open Country lets me travel without leaving home, visiting many places off the beaten path . I live it! BBC4 has the best programs-we...Read full review »

I refer to the episode 5th Dec 2019, secret life of pigeons... it was pleasant to listen to the pigeon folk telling tales past and present about their pigeon racing hobby. However, when the subject of Peregrine Falcons came up the mood soured, as the racers voiced their barely vailed hate towards...Read full review »

It has really opened my eyes to the diversity of the UK. I thought I knew it well but it really brings into focus the significant diversity of the UK and its inhabitants. The delivery is crisp and well scripted. Long may it continue.
