“I was weeping into my porridge while reading Alison’s column and have just listened to your podcast. I agree with every word.
I am not the protesting kind either. I don’t even feel supportive of protesters whatever their cause may be. Although I know there are many who will be peaceful people, I see them as a disrupting mob who have no consideration for the rest of us just going about our daily lives. I’m sick of hearing about their ‘right’ to protest. In fact, I’m sick of hearing anyone bang on about their ‘rights’.
Is it obvious that I am now a member of the unclean age group? I have just turned 70. I feel very sad that our twilight years will be spent in a time where there is so much hatred in so many areas of life. We certainly were able to prosper and save. Just as well, as many of us still have adult children who need our financial support and possibly grandchildren and elderly parents too. In the 50s, we did not enjoy the comforts that so many people assume is their ‘right’ to expect today. Don’t get me started on how we are supposed to have destroyed the planet!
I completely identify with the look on the faces of the poppy sellers. How must they be feeling? Exasperated as I do.
For me, its all about RESPECT. Respect seems to be diminishing in general but surely we now have the ‘right’ to expect it on the day we remember all those who have given their lives in striving for peace.
I will be thinking of Allison on Saturday morning while I am arranging poppies in our church for the Remembrance service on
Sunday.
Keep warm and safe
