If you want to learn the nuts and bolts of all sorts of climbing and alpine activities, Andy Kirkpatrick is the man to listen to. Buy his books, and listen to this. From cold weather camping and skis for mountaineers, to big walling, to figuring out how to plan big routes, to the mindset to get...Read full review »

The first twenty minutes of the ‘navigation’ podcast is an incoherent ramble about refugees, diversity, women, and trans people. None of it subjective, none of it based on any sort of reason or fact, just a biased old man who’s lost his way. Simply awful.

There is great, hard earned climbing information on this podcast, but you have to sift through a ton of tangential nonsense and unashamed problematic narration to get to it. The host has some very conservative opinions about the trans community as well as the dynamics (or very existence) of race...Read full review »

Absolute legend. Lots of rambling. Often amusing. 10/10 would listen again.

Andy has tons of information. On my way to yosemite I listened to him talk about the differences between each type of aid hook for an hour. If you ever want to get into the nitty gritty of xyz climbing gear or technique, this is a fantastic podcast.

Great podcast! Plenty of good bits of climbing content and information mixed in with the interesting ramblings and thoughts for Andy.

Ostensibly about climbing, but only rarely. I listen to every episode when they come out, even though Andy rambles a lot and can be very unfocused. I think this is why I like it. It is raw and honest. My wife and daughter hate this podcast, but they are American. I’m English, so have better taste.

Really like this show. It reminds me of the video diary of Ricardo Lopez but with a mountaineering twist.

Just listen and read his website and books if you want to learn about climbing, he has a wealth of knowledge that he shares freely, as well as many opinions laced with humor about life in general.

This is such a great podcast, not just climbing, but also some climbing! I was aware of Andy K from years ago having bought stuff from him in Outside and seen him speak in the late 90’s. I haven’t yet read any of his books though I am definitely going to change this. His voice is refreshingly...Read full review »

Andy’s tangents cut through climbing and go far beyond. You could almost listen to this without being a climber. He does a top job of simplifying what should be simple and obsessing and unpacking unexplored areas that have the low hanging fruits of performance and adventure ripe for picking. A...Read full review »

Andy is a quirky guy with loads of non climbing related talk that doesn’t really make sense to me. HOWEVER, this guy knows climbing and what’s more he cares to share his immense amount of experience with the rest of us (not sure why. Maybe he wants us to like him or something rubbish like that)....Read full review »

You don’t know what you’ll get, it could be information to save your life on a wall, it might be a rant or Andy’s wonderful ramblings of the world. He has a brilliant viewpoint on the world, and the ensuing humour is entertaining. He’s a dying breed, too many folk have given in to the status quo...Read full review »

Just really like them. Can have them on and it’s like you’re having a conversation with someone that talks a lot, about interesting stuff. Also enjoy his take on the world. People who are willing to talk about their views, that may not be mainstream, are fewer these days.

So much in each of these episodes. Listened to the first episode about three times with various friends.

A bit bulky and unfashionable, but warm, reliable and can be sewn back together if snagged on a rock.

Makes social generalisations about people. 40 mins in, still unable to discuss the subject in the title. What’s going on? Rubbish!

Where did you go ? I don’t want to listen to the other climbers they’re all soft and southern. I miss you Andy, please comeback.

Andy is a national treasure. Tips tricks and awesome ramblings from the hardest man in Hull. One of the best podcasts in climbing. Subscribe to the damned thing and journey through the rabbit hoe / genius that is Andys brain.

I really like Andy’s total honesty, even the ranting and going off track is both informative and amusing. His knowledge of climbing , rope work and places around the globe is second to non & I highly recommend this podcast 🤘

Excellent podcast focused on experience. A breath of fresh air in this chasing number, energy drink product placement era. Andy’s mind is like a pinball going left and right, he sure knows how to make a short story long. Truly interesting character, amazing genuine storytelling.

I first saw Andy perform back in 2002 (or something like that) in Sheffield in a bar which was a street behind Ecclesall road. He was fun then, but he’s proven himself as a climber and still remained honest and even more hilarious. Keep these coming mate, great listening! Looking forward to...Read full review »
