Lowell's crafting of characters means that you don't need space battles, bug-eyed monsters, or even that much happening to be totally caught up in the story.

“I didn't think I was going to like this book/podcast. I subscribed to it and put off listening to it for a while. I then gave it a chance, and once I got into the story I was hooked. I put all my other podcasts on hold and had to finishing listening all the way through.
