Sharyn does a wonderful job of writing and producing her podcasts. Crusades and Reconquista are both interesting, well presented, and steadily published. Thank you for all your efforts.

The content is great, the reading must be some early AI stuff. It is the worst voice work I have yet encountered in a podcast.

I reallllly wanted this podcast to be a good listen. As this is an undertold story I’m super interested in. But the host’s speech random inflections and absolute butchering of the word peninsula - made me stop. I’m not trying to insult someone’s language comprehension or if English isn’t their...Read full review »

This is an amazingly wonderful work of art!

I swear peninSHOEla almost made me scream and ragequit. Don’t give up, run it at 1.25-1.5 and her voice is less robotic and the content is good. Dear author…re-record this well researched work. May i ask what accent peninSHOEla is?

Wonderful historical narrative about a subject not much touched on in Western History. Right balance of narrative fact, side stories and pith!
Leeroy5000 via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 03/12/24
It is good the voice is just so robotic and the narrative never gets that exciting the voice just stays the same.

A thoughtful and considered historical podcast

The voice is the biggest challenge, but better if sped up. Interesting history.

Sharon‘s voice is monotone, or has a “read along” quality to it, but I encourage you to get past that and it’s great. She has gotten a little bit more animated with time. As a Spanish major I have thoroughly enjoyed some “easy listening“ in English and the Iberian peninsula that Sharon explores...Read full review »

Absolutely loved all of the history of the crusades series’ but really struggling to get into this and I can generally listen to any history podcast! No criticism of the host (always found her voice very soothing unlike many from the reviews) and she has obviously spent a lot of time researching...Read full review »

Great content, but the delivery is off. The voice intonation feels more like reading notes rather than speaking to me as a listener.

I know this was addressed briefly, but it doesn’t change it: When speaking about the rulers and land and people of the Iberian Peninsula in the time frames discussed in this series, especially in the early half of the episodes so far, the host often says “Spain or Spanish”. Of course she knows...Read full review »

Solid history podcast that gives a great accounting of the early history of Spain and how it went from a Muslim to Christian territory. Informative and highly detailed, the only downside is that the narration is a bit dry, even if it is cleanly told and easy to follow. Great listen for history...Read full review »

I love Sharyn’s voice, style, humor and content. She is soothing yet always engaging. This and History of the Crusades are my two favorite podcasts of all time.

I was really excited to listen to this podcast, but I really just can’t get into the narration. The story is interesting enough, but I’m writing this review based on how good of a podcast it is, and trust me, this is really not fun to listen to. The narrator is boring and monotonous, and it makes...Read full review »

An excellent podcast giving a detailed account of how each of Spains kingdoms and caliphates passed form Islamic control to Christian and the joining of the Christian kingdoms into a more unified political arrangement resulting in Spain and Portugal

Another Sharon Eastaugh delight. Very clearly read at a pleasant tempo, totally organised, many useful asides. You will hear about the Moors and their occupation of Spain. Repeat listening is recommended as there is a lot of detail.

This lady speaks like a robot with a cadence that makes the show unlistenable. Makes me wonder if it’s actually a robot speaking or if this is a real human being.

I loved the Crusades podcast. Unfortunately the host has developed a weird sing song cadence in her voice that’s unlistenable.

Tons of details and lays out the scenarios without being too dry. I’ve enjoyed it a great deal. Would recommend.

So stoked to see a new series! Loved the crusades and the 100 years war podcasts. Btw I find your tone / voice lovely.

Muslim apologist.. they invaded Roman and sassanid territory. The Anatolian population dealt with 300 years of rape and pillaging but pope urban is the bad guy … 🫣

One of several scholarly and entertaining podcasts by Sharyn Eastaugh.

I would not have assumed this much history existed on one topic. I happen to enjoy deep dives in many topics and I honestly had no idea you could find this much source material on the history of the crusades.

I could really listen to her talk about anything. The super interesting history pits it over the top.
VietSchlong via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/15/22
Just to give one example: Calling Catalonia a “kingdom” even when she is talking about the “Count of Barcelona”.

The content of the show is excellent, but the host constantly raises and lowers her volume every few seconds, I had a lot of trouble listening on 1.5 speed.
chas124566 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/31/22
If you have listened to her slanderous podcast on the Crusades you wouldn’t waste the time to listen to this. This woman should be banned from the internet for her lies.

Wow, thanks for recording this. So glad I found the podcast. This is such a luxury as I can never get enough of La Reconquista. Love this exposé of the various stages in the process. Beautifully read and researched. Super effort! Can’t wait to hear more. Fall of Malaga especially. Cheers!

Interesting content but I just can’t continue to listen with that repetitive and monotonous tone. Will listen to audiobook instead

I respect people like Sharyn and Mike Duncan who are providing detailed, researched and even handed narrative history to the WORLD.

The content is wonderful. But just as the narrator is irritated with lack of research content I am irritated by her lack of tamber. Please focus on your flow. I’ve noted that you end most sentences as though you are ending a paragraph or thought. This makes creates a flow which is rigid or quite...Read full review »

Not only is this podcast extremely through the host tells the story in an amazing way.

Well researched podcast, with odd robotic pronunciation. But the systemic and emphasized peninSHOEula (peninsula) enunciation is an eccentricity that I can’t get over, almost seems like an elaborate prank.

Great listen! Such clarity in the reading, with all details covered. Love the subtle humour, makes the episodes easy to listen too

Love this podcast and its detail. A part of history - that I knew the beginning, end and El CID. Much better informed and entertained now!

Have to admit that this lady synthesizes, organizes, and presents information in a pretty lucid and easy to follow way, making a complicated story easy to follow. The materials and content are great. The monotonous and repetitive tone of the podcast are so unfortunate. The podcaster could get support on this and make this a five star podcast. As is, I find it impossible to enjoy.
