We laugh in the face of Ian Twitch. There is no finer medium for the talents of Victorian Ghost Child and Ally Sloper (among others) than audio-only. Why, oh why, oh why has this not been picked up by the big hitters? (BBC Radio Derby? Silk FM? C’mon, guyz) Richard Herring is undisputed* king of...Read full review »

Stunning work, hilarious and Mr Herring’s best work. He’s probably the only comedian, nay human capable of creating a podcast, with a 130 year old legend of the stage, Mr Ally Sloper.. This gets funnier with each episode. I genuinely believe this mono balled mad man deserves an MBE for services...Read full review »

…and I’m not even winking at it. Mr Herrings best ever work, a sideways look at the news with a huge supporting cast of top characters.

A man going mad in his attic with some puppets. This is what we want!

Insanity will take us all one day. It’s nice to see Rich channeling it into something productive.

Just listened to episode 1. It’s like living through the eyes of someone having a full mental breakdown. 5 stars.

I’ve been listening to Richard Herring for about 10 years now an think he’s easily one the best in the uk and beyond. A great comedian and interviewer with a brilliant sense of humour

One of the funniest podcasts I have listened to for years... didn’t know i could love a ventriloquist doll as much as I loved (Tiny) Andrew Collings. Essential listening

Ally, Donkey and now Mr Marmite Lid and headless Morph - without a doubt the best thing to come out of lockdown.
jaayyddeee via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/02/20
Every time I listen to this show, I find myself wondering what content Stewart Lee, Andrew Collings etc are doing right now - and where can I find it..
Bobfoc1 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/31/20
Once again Richard Herring rides the coat-tails of a funnier, more talented partner. This is so much a rebooted of the Collings and Herrin podcast that he might as well have gotten Dan Tetsell to do the voice of Ally. Worth watching for the moment when Ally gets the green light on his own BBC2...Read full review »

Ventriloquism has a great history in audio broadcasting.

The News Quiz meets Punch and Judy, just without the Judy and an Ally instead. Oh and not much news really. I’m winking, I’m winking

Great podcast, but for the love of god someone stop Ally before he kills again

I can’t believe humanity had to wait 128 years for this! I'm so glad to be alive during these times. It’s so refreshing to have the perspective of a performer who has been entertaining since Victorian times. Thank you to Ally, and to his sidekick.Read full review »

A dark reimagining of Richard Attenborough’s classic 1978 psychological chiller, “Magic”. As in his previous exploration of Multiple Personality Disorder, “Me1vsMe2”, children’s entertainer Richard Herring once again sheds light on the shocking lack of mental health provision currently...Read full review »

Yet again Herring talks all over someone else on a podcast. Ally really seemed to have some cutting satire and fresh incite on the days news and all we get is Herring talking all over him. If it wasn’t already bad enough listening to Herring waffle all over guests in RHLSTP (RHLSTP) he puts out...Read full review »

Rich is actually far better at ventriloquism than anyone has any right to expect. The doll is creepy af on Twitch so this is the best way to consume this content, even if it’s not always clear “who” is supposed to be speaking.

That’s right, this is NOT just another ventriloquism podcast. I’ve listened to a lot of what is a well-worn genre and thought it couldn’t be possible to bring a fresh take, but Ally and Herring have not only done it but continued to push the boundaries.
Striio via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/14/20
Absolute genius. Who would of thought in the year 2020 we would be listening to a man reviewing the news with a Victorian ventriloquist dummy that once wanked him off. We are living in the future.
bryngunnn via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/14/20
Not as much snooker as I was expecting but the newspaper reviews are up there with Marr.

In this, the golden age of podcasting, before the great corporate takeover, I have listened to, loved, and lost many great podcasts. Ventriloquism is one of the most underrepresented art forms. Thankfully Richard Herring, ably assisted by the redoubtable Ally, are here to rectify that. In-depth news reviews, puerile inanities, what’s no to like?
ItsJohnBone via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/13/20
Richard and Ally give it their all in this tour-de-force podcast. Topical, funny, and of the moment. My only criticism is that Richard’s glasses need sorting out.
Martin Peck via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/12/20
Ever wondered what happened to telly comedians from the 90s who aren’t on telly now? Richard herring the eternal sidekick is now paired up with ally, a Victorian dummy - and less repetitive than his old boss and Mark Lamar body double Lee. All in all it’s a great topical comedy news round up...Read full review »

Really - and unexpectedly - good. Richard is a better ventriloquist than he knows, and it was funny besides. The old newspaper revelation was scary though.
Aubreythecat via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 07/11/20
Rich has been talking to himself, or himselves, on several podcasts, and this is the logical conclusion - Rich takes the straight man role, trying to keep things sober and well informed, and Ally is the anarchic, rude, and dangerous partner. It plays to Rich's strengths - improvised...Read full review »

Hope at some point they will simultaneously start telling completely different anecdotes and both persist for minutes as if the other was not talking in some kind of storyteller-chicken (like in collings and herrin)
