Fringe Spirit
Richard Herring's position in the Fringe panoply, twinned with the rise of this podcast to No.1 pretty much guarantees top quality (and good value) guests. His decision to also give a new comedian 5 minutes during the show is laudible. This is, overall a very entertaining listen. To be honest, for me Richard makes a better job of his interviewer/comedy supporter role on the podcasts than he does of being a topical comedian (braces oneself for the obligatory "you just don't get it" glass of vitriol). What he does brilliantly here is to capture the whole feel of Edinburgh at Fringe time and his device of reflecting on episodes from his long Fringe history (this is his 20th) is very winning. He is at his best when he isn't tryimg too hard to be edgy. The quality of the sound recording, especially the highly variable levels and virtual absence of crowd noise is quite poor but hey - it's free!Read full review »
