What a shockingly appalling episode. I thought this was going to be god journalism. No push back against the republican strategist. Just permission to spout further lies. Where was the question actually asking what specific policies Trump is proposing as opposed to the hyperbole and none sense...Read full review »

Consistently rigorous, wide ranging, acutely topical and packed with news I need to know. Well hosted and edited, too. Thanks RNZ!

I love the variety of topics and the knowledge of guests. A great way to get a more detailed understanding of current events. And it highlights issues that I wasn’t even aware of.

I love this in-depth look into aspects of Aotearoa New Zealand with a mix of news, & contemporary stories. I never know what topic I’m going to learn a little about each day on The Detail, but it’s always current, always interesting & very enjoyable.

Exceptional podcast. Informative, succinct and relevant. Couldn’t ask for anything else.

Love this podcast! The deep dive into each story is always well presented and interesting. The stories are always varied and it’s a great podcast for learning more about some of the biggest stories and issues of the week. Emile Donovan is a great presenter.

It’s great to have in-depth stories instead of sound bites. Thanks, RNZ

As a Kiwi living in Australia, I really love this podcast and the opportunity to keep up with various news and current affairs issues that affect NZ. A great range of topics and perspectives.

Supermarket episode with Consumer NZ Rep précis made more sense of the duopoly issue in 20 minutes than other media have managed in months.

Thank you for starting this conversation The overview given was great. The alternative expertise the on powergrid and battery storage I think would have given a more balance perspective on the current state of the energy market. Reference to the battery storage projects and planning for changes...Read full review »

I have been a regular listener for a couple of years. Initially, I enjoyed the shows. However, over time, I noticed that the journalism was becoming unbalanced. The journalists would state a hypothesis and then set out to prove that hypothesis by interviewing only those who supported the...Read full review »

Podcast on mining had no one from the mining sector, podcast on groundswell had no one from groundswell, podcast on journalistic bias due to government funding featured all journalists that benefit from the grant!

This show is my go to for succinct summation of topical news and greater insight from individuals in the know. Presenters are thoughtful and researched.
Elby One via Apple Podcasts · New Zealand · 03/07/22
Has some useful thoughts, but seems to be mainly opinions rather than actual presentation of verifiable information. Unfortunately does not check out news reports and indicate whether there is any truth behind the reports. Bit of a shame to miss this opportunity

Excellent journalism on stories you should know more about.

Current issues in shorter form of 20-25mins but explored in detail. This timeframe is doing the job of getting behind the headlines, and into the details from multiple perspectives from people who know what their talking about. - No Joe Rogan here; without going for the long form 1-2 hour epic....Read full review »

Radio NZ used to have a good analysis program, Insight. The Detail by comparison is shallow, superficial trash, produced by the same sort of playschool ‘journalist’ that infest Music101. Only capable of idiotic puff pieces on entertainment trivia, noise polluters etc. Anything else, I suspect...Read full review »

Easily takes the place of TVNZ news. So much more authoritative. Easy both to listen to and concentrate on The rich list. Constant “you knows” - so irritating. And it is infectious! But otherwise, applause.

What a one sided view of the seaspiracy documentary. Not surprising as both interviewer and interviewee go fishing! You could have found some scientists and environmentalists to address the very real issues raised in the film like discarded fishing tackle, slavery, by catch, depletion of fish...Read full review »

Appalled with the poor quality journalism and pandering to the fishing industry in today’s (13 May 2021) episode, allowing blatant lies to be spread. Shows that even The Detail is able to be paid to run stories by those willing. A total disservice to the integrity of what is normally a good podcast.

At 20ish minutes long, this is the perfect podcast to listen to on an early morning walk. Contemporary and varied subjects, with experts featured, give credibility to the show.

Entertaining and educational This podcast is one I always look forward to listening to and highly recommend it to all my friends. The people conducting interviews and narrating the stories have a very warm human and levelling approach. You guys rule! One of the best news podcasts

You’re very informative and explain all topics to a depth that’s both understandable and entertaining: while not losing the point of being serious topics. I love it!

I’ve been listening to The Detail for a couple weeks now and I have really enjoyed the extra detail dug up via the interviews they conduct in a medium that makes it easier to absorb more detail in a usual workday flow.

The Detail is fantastic. Smart, concise, topical and loads of NZ relevant content.

This is very similar to The Daily. Love how they don’t just talk about the ever changing headlines rather dive deep into topics that slip the new radar. The choice of topics is good and does stitch picture that doing small thing would result in better results.
