Writing a review before the release...
I'm writing a review before I've listened to a single full episode just to clarify for any confused podcast listeners as to what is going on with the rating. Although Apple don’t publicly disclose how their ranking system work, it seems clear to me that it has something to do with the amount of interest there is for a certain podcast over a short amount of time (e.i. new subscribers, traffic). In the last week this podcast was plugged by Planet Money and I assume many other NPR podcasts with large audiences, many of whom like me went and subscribed in anticipation of the first episode. It is also very clear to me that conservative podcaster Ben Shapiro, who is currently #5 in the rankings, has sent his listeners to rate those podcasts above him poorly in an effort to get to the top. Not just this podcast, but Oprah's new podcast was bombarded with one star reviews before anyone even had the chance to hear the first few episodes. I suspect they are also responsible for many of Stuff You Should Know and This American Life's one star ratings, although those ratings have been entirely lost in the decades worth of reviews by actual listeners.Read full review »

wow
Shout out to the genuine and intellectually open NPR creators who enrage manlets who are obsessed with insignificant ratings and metrics. This preview is promising. 🙋🏽

Great exploration of the effects of perspective! The first program I listened to was about race in Brazil. I felt naive as I heard how race is perceived there. A terrific, mind-expanding weekly pod.
