I am so sad that this podcast was canceled. It is wonderful! The stories, the perspectives, the variety of people, places, and ideas are all so unique and fascinating. I highly recommend it.

Please listen to the beautiful story. This should be made into a movie!

So many interesting stories in here! I actually don’t really like the Love Commandos reporting, so I would recommend people skip it and start with one-offs.

I have enjoyed every one of your episodes. Wish you the best!

I love rough translation and always share it with friends. Its Our go-to podcast to listen to on on road trips. Many episodes have been listened to multiple times. I love getting to here stories from around the world from the people themselves. Can be even more meaningful than travel itself,...Read full review »

The episode about French workers at McDonalds was just pure unabashed corporate propaganda. Horrible. If it was paid for by McDonalds, I would think it was heavy handed greenwashing. But it seems the team honestly thought this was unbiased journalism. What was a story of worker solidarity and...Read full review »

Such great work and execution by the host and all the participants!! I grew up as an NGO in UA and haven’t been “home” in almost 18 years and haven’t traveled a lot either and this podcast helps me feel connected to the rest of the beautiful world we inhabit

The series in Love Commandos was brilliant. I enjoy rough translation, but this was another level. Excellent 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I hate that it took me this long to find and get into rough translation only to find out that it’s ending. Such insightful and thoughtful reporting that respectfully highlights other cultures without hyperbole and make it relateable to American culture.

This show just keeps on doing what it does: amazing topics with amazing production.

This was the only show I would listen to every episode of. As we’re living a strange time of heightened conflicts, this show reminds us that we’re all human and we have more in common than we have differences
annienxli via Apple Podcasts · Germany · 07/31/23
This show never ceases to be compelling.

It’s rare to have some truly non-American centric journalism spoken from the local POV instead of interpreted from any typical US mindset. Honestly told with sparks of humanity.

I have listened to Rough Translation from the beginning. I am always sharing an episode or an element of a story from an episode with someone. I have lived overseas for more than half of my life, Gregory and his teams stories are my stories too. I am heartbroken that NPR has canceled this podcast.

Please continue the show. I can’t express enough happiness a few years ago when I discovered this gem of a storytelling/analysis podcast in the middle of the pandemic. I love traveling more than anything and to have a podcast that can connect me with that joy when traveling wasn’t possible was...Read full review »

Rough Translation brings together my favorite topics: the fascinating and mundane things people do, and the fascinating and mundane reasons why. I love learning about the world, and Rough Translation brings the world to my ears with no judgment and such love.

One of my all time favorite podcasts - You know the episodes are good because you end up talking about them during the week with friends, family, and coworkers. Lately I’ve been talking about the Bad English episode - now I see sports idioms everywhere I look!

You have an excellent show because of your open, astute and a truly global outlook. Kudos. But it is a radio show, not a community. As you know because you are well travelled, community takes time, presence and commitment. And most of all, human building relationships based on mutual help over...Read full review »

I’ve listened to RT since the beginning and started to listen with my daughter (now 12) a few years ago. We love every episode and it offers stories from perspectives you don’t get elsewhere. Please continue the show even if not on NPR.
TrepanThis via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/10/23
I am so sad to see this RT go. The episodes connected me to other parts of the world with stories you won’t hear anywhere else. I’ll patiently waiting for another season even if it’s not with NPR.
Viry Gonzalez via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/30/23
I learn so much from RT that I wish it could be a weekly podcast. The topics are incredible, the stories so human, normal, and unique.

I loved this podcast. It was like travelling around the world just by listening. I’m really sad it’s over. Thank you for making this show. Anna in Somalia is something that has never left my brain. And the cat in Ukraine.

This is a really solid podcast. Gregory has a very endearing narrating style. Topics are original and interesting. Why is NPR cancelling this?

I just read that NPR is going to cut this podcast?! DON’T!!! It’s a unique perspective on life in other places, from the point of view of the people there but with the context necessary for outsiders to see the big picture. Why cut something so unique and necessary in our global times? if you...Read full review »

Listening to Rough Translation makes me feel alive in a way no other podcast does. The stories it tells never grow old, never feel outdated - that’s how good they are.

Rough Translation is an audio passport that makes the world feel both enormous and tiny. Gregory is gentle with big stories, he brings his heart to his journalism. I loved this podcast in the beginning, and felt that the subjects were more varied. Last year and more recently, it seemed to be mostly about the Ukraine/Russia which I’m not interested in. Missed the mark for me. “What about the abortions?” comment was odd. She seemed disappointed the pills had been used to save lives of women suffering miscarriages or needing labor induction.
Chrissie Velasquez via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/03/23
I typically like the show, good quality stories in a well packaged audio format but what was that abortion pill episode?? 40 minutes of suspense for what? A donation that went fine. Thank you for this series about work. I really enjoyed the episode about Portugal’s law to disconnect, and the moving story from your local reporter.
