Woah! Eagerly awaited (*desperately* awaited) for each Ep to drop
I'll start with what would usually be an entire review, or the last line of a review: definitely worth a listen. Stories of people embroiled in scientific endeavours; Stories from people's lives, understood through science; & Science's uncertainties (or are they?) presented for us to think on and maybe, act on. The maker of this program (the host, who seems to be at the helm of this program) has combined her scientific credentials with her years in radio gathering & telling stories. This podcast feels like the culmination of all she's done so far, with the result being really interesting stories that come out of science. From the enthralling first episode of amazing storytelling about some *epic* science, to the final episode of the first season about some very close-to-home science that will send many to the Science Friction website looking for more information, this podcast is the stuff of legends and the stories around the evidence of science. The episodes are a good length, starting with a couple around 35 minutes to accomodate the dramatic & profound stories they tell. Then it's down to shorter episodes, packed with enough science to give you the guts of it in digestible terms, surrounded by the stories that relate the science firmly to the experiences of people. Sometimes a story is of a scientific field that's relatively new but widely accepted, or as in the final episode, science that has been debated for years. And not just debated because science is progressed by further findings that support (or don't), expand, or contest what has come before. We hear the differing views of scientists working on research into the same issue - and that's excluding the interest groups that have an agenda for one outcome to be "the right outcome". But they're represented too: in the last episode of season one, an industry group who chose not to be interviewed provide their statement for us to read. I usually wanted to get more of an understanding on topics covered, sometimes out of interest, and sometimes because I had a decision to make: was there evidence that would lead me to change my behaviour or decisions? Episode 6, as I mentioned, is an example of that & will have many heading to the website with their questions. And there are different answers for everyone depending on their circumstances and their response to what's presented. And, as the host says, there's the rub. @RobnWithAWhyRead full review »

This show is very left of center on politics. If you are ok with this then no big deal, but you have to ask is there room for politics in science. Full disclosure is that I typically vote conservative. However I am very open minded and I feel I have a good grasp of both sides as my political...Read full review »
