“If you've ever commented online about a tv show or a movie, you should be listening to this podcast, which manages to be a weekly masterclass in creating great entertainment without getting too into the sausage-making.
It doesn't matter if you respect August & Mazin's work (although you should -- for reasons that become apparent once you start listening). These guys know what they're talking about, and although they're too busy to teach a weekly workshop, this hour-long podcast manages to be as informative as any screenwriting class (and I say that as someone with a degree from a well-respected program.) Plus they're funny, honest, and cover topics addressing the interests of everyone from the newbie (how do I sell a pilot?) to the hard-core professional (when do I need to create a loan-out?).
In a perfect world, I would love it if there were a TV-writers' podcast with a similar level of expertise, humor and honesty, but I suspect that one of the reasons Scriptnotes is so great is that, as feature screenwriters, August and Mazin have both a measure of job security and scheduling freedom unheard of on the TV side. Still, I can dream, right?”Read full review »
