I found this podcast recently and absolutely love it and have been recommending it to all my friends. Intriguing and informative insights into a wide range of Golden Age detective novel themes. It’s inspired me to try out new authors and consequently added hugely to my reading pile. 😂

Such a treat! Episodes are well-written and conceived . Have been listening to them in chronological order and the earliest ones include information on famous historical crimes (Dr.Crippen, etc.) and shows their influence on the mystery novels we love. But don’t think this is a dry or...Read full review »

A wonderful and very interesting podcast. A great way to discover lesser known authors from the Golden Age. And I love Caroline’s soothing voice.

I discovered this podcast after the host’s appearance on another show and excitedly downloaded the entire 153 episodes to binge my way through. After making it through 40 in the first week I’m hooked! The podcast is well produced and beautifully written, and the content is a balanced mix of...Read full review »

Look, the only real problem is that all of these amazing book recommendations are filling up my audible subscription. It’s not the worst problem to have.

I have been dismayed by the progress of this podcast for some time and the decline is accelerating. In the February 2024 edition on the Unpleasantness At The Bellona Club the absolute refusal of either party, especially the guest, to accept the context of the period in which it was written into...Read full review »

She had me at “starring Kenneth Branagh’s awful mustache as Hercule Poirot” … No, she had me way before that! With the first episode of Shedunnit, in fact, and every one after that! Caroline Crampton has a writer’s ability to spot common themes and interesting details and a journalist’s talent...Read full review »

Really enjoy these podcasts - Caroline is so knowledgeable - particularly about the Golden Age of crime fiction. More Agatha Christie / Miss Marple/ Hercule Poirot content please!

I recommend this to almost everyone I know — it’s a great combination of bookish appreciation, interesting interviews, and fascinating research into the Golden Age of mysteries. And well produced too. A joy to listen to!

This is a superlatively researched podcast. Many episodes offer insights into the social history of the interwar period—including topics such as single women, golf, the development of forensic science, and the rise of the crossword—that intersect with classical detective fiction. Topics are...Read full review »

This podcast is both a surprise and a delight. As satisfying as the endings she carefully avoids spoiling (despite many of these books having been written near a hundred years ago), this podcast is both an audio joy, and an imaginative treat. Highly recommended to all.

Very late comer to this podcast, but that just makes binge-listening easier! The care and intelligence with which Golden Age mystery writers are treated is all one can hope for. If your reading of a good whodunnit always leaves you gasping for more, this is a very good place to stop.
