“In Ways of Hearing--a great idea for a podcast, and one I got really excited about at first--I was turned off by Damon Krukowski's pompous dismissal of the modern, especially because his arguments left huge issues untouched and counterarguments unexamined. Gave up 3 episodes in, though I was totally interested in the subject--just not in listening to that stuffed-shirt talk about it.
Polybius seemed interesting enough to begin with, though a deep-dive into nerdy business that's often more hot air than content. I couldn't see how they were going to stretch it into six episodes until the story started developing--which was fascinating, at first. Then the story started to develop a little too nicely, and then it was a Hardy Boys story. Only then did I google it and discover that yes, while they'd interviewed real people, it was a "docu-fiction" though there was nothing about that said in episode descriptions. There's nothing someone who's looking for journalism likes less than discovering the journalist made the thing up, which is why Stephen Glass, Jayson Blair, and Janet Cooke aren't looked to as people who embodied the complexity of the difficult stories they were telling, but rather people who fabricated journalism and let people down.
The new series about Secrets seems good, so I can't give this only one star. Only one episode in, though, so who knows.”Read full review »

Typically I would say if you are fan of sci-fi or games check this out. For this story anyone who doesn’t listen is really missing out. My...”Read full review »
