The hosts are extremely funny and relatable, which makes the pod a success overall. They are the reason I listen each week. I love the idea of the show, but it isn’t executed particularly well. Sometimes the hosts listen to the playlist ahead of time, sometimes not. Sometimes they have the...Read full review »

Lotta people out here hating on a show with hours of content they can access for free. Personally, I dig the concept the format and the conversation. Some episodes they are better at staying on topic than others, but there’s lots of great stuff here to enjoy. Eff the haters

Do they hold the phone up to the microphone when they play tracks? Sounds like it
gusbusss94 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/02/23
Way too much talking about things other than the bands. Absolutely abysmal audio quality. And just plain unfunny.
Pyrorufus via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/17/22
Thakkar can’t get through one sentence without saying “uhh” 10 times. And it’s not funny

My new go-to podcast for Stan Rogers content. These guys can find the humor in any type of music, from the good to The Spin Doctors. I’m late to the game but SBYB is seriously bingeable.

Such a funny show and helped me realize I liked bands that I thought I disliked!

After they get past all the giggling, it’s a good show. Lay off all the fake laughter and we’re onto something…

These guys “joke” about being pedophiles, they’re racist, and they spread Covid. Maybe my reviews aren’t getting approved because they’re too mean, but this show deserves it.

Tom Thakkar is funny because his name is Tom. Tommy McNamara is partially funny because his name is partially Tom. Check out this show about bands.

This podcast is the best. It's like reminiscing with your sick bros about music you listen to while playing beer pong in the garage of your friend whose parents are never home.Read full review »

I just heard the Hold Steady episode (where I got a shoutout!) and I’m now stoked to hear more. Great hosts and such an amazingly conversational vibe! Great listen!

wow, never thought I’d be proud to call myself a piss freak, but what can i say? the wolf of dog street and the prince of snarkness have provided me with countless laughs and i look forward to hearing their podcast every week. also do more episodes with guy montgomery. thanks.

Great concept! Some truly guilty pleasures are covered. Tom is an exceptional entertainer. Tommy is a bit of a soy boy. Have Recine on more to bully Tommy.

my friend introduced me to the dispatch ep of stand by your band last year. since i have listened to almost every episode and am a patreon. this show is so funny. i prefer the eps that are heavier on comedy than defending the band, but they all hold up. tommy in particular is so quick-witted.
kristenkpatt via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/14/20
If you love music and comedy, this is the perfect mix. At first I only listened to the episodes about artists I was interested in, but now I’m going back and listening to all the episodes because it’s just too funny.

Fun and funny! For music and comedy lovers alike!

Worst podcast I think I’ve ever heard. First of all it wasn’t funny at all. Secondly, if you’re gonna tell stories about someone, at least be accurate. The story about Peter and Bowie isn’t true. Although he was friends with Bowie, it was Bill Wyman who took him out that night. He’s told that...Read full review »

I’m rating this for a reason. Tommy on his knees. I am rating it 5/6 though because I’m the bob seagar episode tommy told me to close my eyes and imagine snow falling which I did. I was driving at the time and died.

Meh
I tried to like this podcast but it is too unfocused on the music. Too many personal stories are shared. Too many bad and crude jokes. Preparation to discuss the artist is also quite lacking.

Good hilarious boys
ww711 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/01/19
...then you’d like this. The hosts don’t spend a whole lot of time talking/debating about the actual subject, so shorter episodes could help. A lot of laughing at their own jokes.

I highly recommend it for any comedy/music fan. Love these guys! Keep it crispy!

Ty to Joel Kim Booster for recommending his defense of Maroon 5 & a great podcast! Tom & Tommy are so funny and good-hearted. They really strike a balance between being critical but in a supremely fair way. Not stuck up or snobby at all.
AM___113 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/28/19
Tom & Tommy are hilarious hosts. First and foremost, I think that's the best way to approach a podcast like this. They are great comics and that humor translates to the witty banter they share while they admit their guilty pleasures or shred a band to pieces. Aside from the laughs, this...Read full review »

One host talks 95% of the time and can’t stop laughing at his own unfunny jokes. He also used both homophobic and ableist language within the first 30 minutes of the episode I listened to. Truly awful.

These guys are funny, and have funny guests. I especially enjoy that Jared fellow. I’ve been cherry picking episodes that I think will be especially funny or interesting, and avoiding ones that feature artists I consider indefensible. The somewhat unfocused style was confusing until I got a feel...Read full review »

at the time i thought they kinda rocked. i dont feel like this show can absolve me of that, but it helps me make sense of it all. i wish you would do all the bands from my past i struggle with now. id feel a lot lot *lot* better. <3

I heard about this on You Up w/ Nikki Glaser but had never listened to a podcast in my life, however I loved Tom Thakkar on You Up so much that I decided I would give it a shot. Stand by Your Band never fails to brighten my day. Tom and Tommy are both hilarious and have a great rhythm. The idea behind the podcast is very wholesome. And of course, I love that they portray p*ss heads in a positive light. This podcast has introduced me to great music: Vampire Weekend, They...Read full review »
