If podcasts had existed in Hadrian’s time I have no doubt he to would have been podcasting about his wall building experience. We can only hope that future generations of English Heritage members care for Herring’s Wall as much as the current generation does for Hadrian’s.

I find this work menacing/playful because of the way the auditory suggestions of the biomorphic forms notates a participation in the critical dialogue of the 90s.

I’ve listened to great scholars talk about Rome and Greece, but it is Herring and his astonishing work with stone clearing that brings me the most profound intellectual joy. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to clear stones. What more of a recommendation do you need?
