Fascinating history, great podcast
I stumbled upon this podcast by accident while preparing for a trip to Corsica. I initially intended just to listen to the episodes on Napoleon's childhood in Corsica, but it immediately sucked me in! First, I really like the structure of this podcast. Other historical podcasts that I've seen flit around between different topics and eras (15 minutes on a 20th century American figure one week, 15 minutes on a 12th century Japanese figure the next week). I really like that this podcast gives a deep dive, describing the characters, events, and context in detail. Unlike the other deep-dive podcasts I've seen, though, which have multi-hour marathon episodes, this is broken into nice bite-sized pieces for easy listening. Napoleon is a fascinating figure, living in a fascinating time, and the author does a great job of describing this in a well-paced, narratively interesting way, not just dryly reciting names and dates. Listening to this podcast made me interested in looking for other history podcasts, and I have yet to find one I like as much as The Age of Napoleon. Great work!Read full review »

This is really good. The host is smart, level-headed and engaging. He’s great at explaining how international, national, and local developments dovetailed into what became the French Revolution. The material is erudite and accessible.

I found this podcast after the host was a guest on Chapo Traphouse and I'm really happy to listen and support it. Episodes are sensibly paced and of a digestible length. Obviously all history podcasts get compared to Dan Carlin's HH. I think AON compares favorably for its timeliness and sense...Read full review »
