I love listening to these cheeky gentleman who have true love and respect for the medium of games journalism and are devoted to keeping this podcast fresh, funny and (occasionally) appropriately irreverent.

I thought I’d finally found the biscuit ranking podcast. For once, I felt happy. Then they changed the subject.l to talk about other stuff. You know, waggling joysticks or something. I gave it a try. You might too.

Listening to The Back Page is honestly just as much fun as playing the games Matthew and Samuel chat about! No matter the topic, every episode is engaging, informative, and entertaining. Highly recommend!

So far only listened to the classic Xcom episode and the show’s already five stars. Funny, relaxing, and great host dynamics.

The hosts might berate you for bad videogame takes, but at least one of them only wants what’s best for you. Give this one a listen.

Top tier podcasting from Samuel and Matthew. The dynamic between them is great which can lead to some hilarious moments but most importantly is the variety on offer with each episode and you can tell they both really know their stuff. The guest episodes are great too and the addition of Jeremy...Read full review »

This is one of the best video game podcasts around hosted by two genuinely funny and knowledgeable men. Additionally, both of them have great laughs. I have a high bar for podcaster laughs and these guys are S rank (which means great).

Consistently funny and always entertaining. Two experienced and amusing hosts who have an easy rapport with one another. Each episode laced with some terrific anecdotes. Superb stuff

I started listening to this on the recommendation of a friend and I absolutely love it. Samuel and Matthew are brilliantly engaging, funny, inventive and knowledgeable. This has recently become my favourite podcast and I’m close to moving into the XL tier. If you want to know if you might like...Read full review »

Fantastic show, very enjoyable hosts with wonderful self deprecating humour. A fantastic discovery that has kept me entertained through Covid and beyond. Came across The Back Page following a recommendation on gaming website GRcade and absolutely loving this. Two guys who wrote for various British gaming mags over the last two decades sharing their experiences and passionately talking about the games they love while offering loads of insight into...Read full review »

I loved PC Zone growing up, and on paper this should be the most incredible podcast however one of the hosts really annoying, obnoxiously loud screech of a laugh makes it impossible to listen to. It’s both irritating and deafening.

These guys are very funny and enjoyable to listen to. Most importantly, they aren’t full of themselves. It’s a mystery how certain other podcast hosts can take themselves so seriously when they’re discussing retro video games for fun. I need to be careful when listening to this podcast because I...Read full review »

Hosted by two former video game magazine editors, The Back Page offers some great insights into games journalism alongside the fun discussion about all sorts of video games.

If you grew up reading video games magazines, then this show is a must-listen. Even if you didn’t, and you just love video games then it’s probably still a must-listen, to be honest. It’s two guys with lots of experience editing and writing for video game magazines chatting and sharing their...Read full review »

I listen to too much games media, and this is my favorite one. What makes it work well is the mix of contemporary gaming news/reviews, older video game nostalgia romps, and behind the curtain insight into games journalism. If you remember gaming in the 90s and still enjoy gaming today I can’t...Read full review »

My favourite podcast. Video game content that doesn’t make you cringe inside out is worth it’s weight in gold. Keep up the great work. The XXL stuff is also well worth the price of entry. This is exactly the type of podcast about games I’ve always wanted.

That headline will probably mean very little to very few people but the general vibe, intelligent banter and professional backgrounds in games coverage are exactly what I’ve been looking for since the last XBW podcast.

I really like how broad it is, talking about games from different platforms and eras. This is a crucial part of my weekly podcast rotation!

Probably the highest praise I can give is that even the episodes that I put off listening to because they don’t immediately grab me from the description, are always worth the listen. (Please don’t pulp me for that). Games court is a banger format, I’ve listened to some of those episodes 2-3...Read full review »

It took me months to get into this podcast. Samuel has a habit of conducting very longwinded intros that can go on for 45 minutes. This put me off at first, but I think the duo has hit upon the formula that works for them. If you’re looking for a podcast about gaming that doesn’t feel the need to...Read full review »

My one suggestion — repeat the name of the game you’re speaking about a couple times as you talk. Oftentimes I miss the name when you first say it. Great show!

This is consistently entertaining, and full of wee insights into the murky world of video game journalism. Quite surprising how ignorant Matthew is about PlayStation and XBox games, which makes his mini-console game choices bafflingly ill-judged (though that doesn’t explain his Nintendo picks,...Read full review »

As a UK expat living in Katy, Texas, this is just the thing I need to cure all my homesickness, give me everything I miss from all my old favourite gaming magazines and even enrich my treasured collection (new pastime: scour through old mags to read Sam and Matthew’s reviews!). How refreshing to listen to a gaming podcast by from two knowledgeable, engaging hosts who *actually talk about games*.
