BRILLIANT - SHOULD BE REQUIRED LISTENING
This series is in the EXCELLENT category. Insights, honest character revelation, clear lines of enquiry, development and disclosure. Well done. The topic is heartrendingly tragic, but human nature in all its beauty and in its ugliness is relentlessly depicted in this real life event. Melanie Reid is a master of efficient storytelling, with no stone unturned. Not too much, not too little, just right, in my opinion. Thank you Ms Reid and team for bringing this shocking history into the public domain. This is stuff we Need To Know. About our New Zealand bureaucracy and institutions. About human frailty and human strengths. The tragedy is Lachie's death and the impact on people just like you and me. For all of us, life should never be the same again. There are huge lessons here. We must never give up on truth. It is the only thing which will rescue mankind.Read full review »

Melanie Reid, the investigative journalist host of this podcast, is a commanding presence in this very well told story. She has the level of impact that leads to action - like Hedley Thomas (Teacher’s Pet), as another reviewer mentioned. I prefer this series to her earlier one about the crèche.

Brilliant investigative work by Melanie Reid which came about by the determination and love of Lachie’s father and his friend - listen and be astonished, and angry.
