Very close to great, 3.5 star is more accurate
I'll start by saying that I enjoy the vast majority of the content of each show. The topics are current and the "exbeeriments" are contrarian in nature which I love. Pushing the boundaries and debunking old brewing "law" to help shorten/simplify the brew process is what draws me to this podcast over many others. If you are looking for out of the box thinking this is your podcast. With that said the ENTIRE audience could do without the intermittent advertising. If you want to open each show and close each show with ad's by all means this is understandable (and more reasonable) but during my 40 min commute I cannot complete an episode because the show opens with ad's and there are 1-2 stops in content for ad's. I don't touch my phone while driving to skip them (I'm sure this is the point but I along with everyone else doesn't pay attention to them) so I'm subject to this wasted time. I will say that the one thing I dislike the most about this podcast and the reason for the 3.5/4 star rating is that it seems there is a great deal of concern for the critics of the show/content and that there is a lot of backpedaling or tip toeing around the findings of these "exbeeriments". Im tuning in to learn of your findings and to learn of a conclusion based on those findings. Not once do I recall a single "exbeeriment" result leading to a conclusion, or at the very least something that would change a contributors approach to their process. It seems that they run the experiment but are afraid to draw a conclusion based on their findings due to fear of blowback from the internet trolls. Ive also noticed that this approach is taken when doing the Q&A segments. These episodes are virtually useless because there is no clear response being given. If Im asking you a question, clearly I want your opinion or your personal truth on the subject... I asked because I value your opinion. Its pointless to give a very generalized round about response. More often than not the questions are left unanswered and it seems that fear of said blowback is the culprit here as well. I would like to see the ads moved to the beginning and end of the show ONLY, and for the contributors to actually draw a conclusion to each experiment without all of the backpedaling or worry of the blowback. If you aren't able to draw a conclusion, stand behind the findings, or adopt the learning and apply it to your process...what is the point of it all?Read full review »

You have reminded me that this is a hobby and it is supposed to be fun. Yes our goal is to make good (great) beer but having fun and enjoying it is the most important part. Love hearing your xbmnt. Thanks. Keep it up.
