A Treasure
One of my favorite podcasts. For many years I've been listening mostly to historical podcasts such as this that describe, using the best sources available, the trials and tribulations, triumphs and sorrows of people from our past. It was with great joy that I found the Explorers Podcast. The Host does an excellent job researching and presenting to the listener a wealth of information in a digestible manner, and he does it with humility and charm. Subscribe to this podcast to have some history lessons on some of the most famous tales of exploration such as that of Ferdinand Magellan and the Lewis and Clark Expedition, but also on lesser known (completely unknown to myself!) expeditions such as the Burke and Wills expedition across Australia, and a one-part episode on Vladimir Atlasov's exploration of Kamchatka. A couple of the series are somewhat less about exploration, and more about history, as even the Host admits, and for which I have no objection. I am thinking of Hernan Cortez's conquest of Mexico which was indeed part exploration, but more about the account of the conquest. The other is My favorite account is the two part series detailing Fransisco de Orellana's unbelievable account of desperately riding makeshift boats down the entire length of the Amazon river after coming down from the Andes looking for gold. Sent to look for food, his detachment went downstream but couldn't make it back against the current. They decided to go with the flow (later being accussed of desertion) but had no idea they'd just commited to dodging disease, poisoned arrows, and starvation down virtually the entire length of the largest river in the world. Tune in to this great podcast to hear that story in full! Well done, Matt Breen, this is a real treasure and brings a lot of value to my life.Read full review »

Captivating voice giving great detail, easy to get sucked into the amazing stories of our past. Started with louis and clark, but decided to go to the beginning and listen to all the podcasts.
