Joe Misiti is Essendon born and bred. From a little child watching his beloved Dons at Windy Hill, the promising talent worked his way through the juniors and became not only a premier midfielder of the competition, but a firm fan favourite. ‘Smokin’ Joe’, as he’s affectionately known by Bombers supporters, took a trip down memory lane and touched on that unbelievable 1993 premiership triumph, the all-conquering 2000 side, plus a whole lot more!

Melbourne experienced a torrid time between 2008 - 2013 and one player who experienced it first hand was Cale Morton. Drafted with pick 4 in the 2007 AFL draft, he came with high expectations. However, a poor environment and culture would greet the young Perth kid. He had a promising first year, but the entire team suffered some of their heaviest defeat’s in the club’s history. Russell Robertson played 228 games for Melbourne and never took a backward step, playing the game with an infectious enthusiasm. Known for taking hangers and kicking insane goals, Robbo was a fan favourite during 12 years with the Dees. Brad Sewell was an honest footballer. Hard-working and dependable, Sewell would win a club best & fairest and then go on to taste the ultimate success with Hawthorn in 2008 and 2013, cruelly missing out on being selected for the 2014 Grand Final victory due to injury. Glenn Manton had to fight tooth and nail to earn his spot on an AFL list, even more so to get himself into a premiership winning outfit. With very little luck on his side at Essendon, an opportunity at Carlton would be a career lifeline that he took full advantage of, winning the flag in 1995. Former Sydney Swans premiership defender Alex Johnson is arguably one of the unluckiest AFL footballers to ever have ever played the game. After suffering five knee reconstructions, amazingly he found a way back to play again. However, it would be short lived. His story is cruel in nature, but not in Alex’s eyes, who explains why he’s got so much to be thankful for during this footy career.
