A rather transcendental experience
I’ve been into the “collapsnik” content since the IPCC report in 2021. Listened to Ashes Ashes to learn more about the fragile aspects of our civilization and to The Poor Prole’s Almanac which is a more practical pod, with many excellent episodes around sustainable food growing and other kinds of knowledge and skills lost by the urban dwellers. The Great Simplification is something completely different. Yes, I knew the decrease in quality of life was coming, but I’ve never centered my understanding around the energy and the superorganism feeding on it. The bird’s-eye view of this podcast is absolutely invaluable – I'm an activist and now I better understand the problems we face and it's easier for me to articulate to other people what exactly is going on. Not to mention all the amazing stories from the r folks who worked on this even before I was born and have seen the build-up of the current crisis with their own eyes. The only thing I wish to see is more guests from the Global South. I live in Latin America and we have many unique problems that aren't present in places like the US or UK. Other than that, thanks a lot for your work, Nate!Read full review »

This review is for Episode 71. I’m over 90 minutes in and not a single mention of AI yet. The conversation is plodding, pedantic and endless. Obvious points are mercilessly flogged and yet superficially treated. Only for fans of endless exposition.
