Read The Terranauts Instead
Look, I get it. It's not a stretch to say that there are plenty of Mars based science fiction stories, books, movies, etc. out there - but this feels like a cut and paste, but change a few things, version of TC Boyle's The Terranauts. I've only listened to the first episode, and I realize information will come as we move forward that could take a different route but I doubt it. There are flaws that I can't get past in Episode One. No way would NASA create a dome the size of a 2 car garage for 6 humans to live in for a year. Where do they store all the food needed for 6 adults? Sleeping Arrangements? Bathroom Facilities? The list goes on. If the experiment is to see how humans can surive a year on Mars, they need to create their own ecosystem within the dome (which The Terranauts does), NASA would want to see what it takes to not only survive but to actually thrive on a lifeless planet. The writers of The Habitat are setting up their story solely for the purpose of failure. I think what The Terranauts does correctly is give the characters everything they need to thrive in their locked in environment and let human nature decide how the story unfolds. Read (or listen on Audible) The Terranauts by TC Boyle instead. I commend Gimlet for going for it and generally like all of their efforts, but this one didn't sit right with me.Read full review »

Was really excited for this podcast. I felt it was a good podcast. Disappointed it didn’t get into more detail of the whole year.
