Easy listening, a measured take, seems well researched!

A fantastic follow up podcast to The History of Rome podcast. I never particularly cared for eastern Roman history before, but now I can’t get enough. I look forward to listening to a few episodes of this podcast every day.

Started as a really great podcast with excellent work by Robyn. Was a real eye opener for me, but now I’m really listening from inertia. The narrative is neglected in favor of endless questions episodes (most of them are what if questions, to which the answer is “nobody knows”) and other side...Read full review »

Since I started from episode 1 And now to 36 the lecture has been fascinating. I listen to it going to and from work and when I’m walking the dog. And I have 200 more episodes to go. All I can say is very interesting. Best Wishes

The History of Byzantium is a very professional and informative podcast that tells the story of the Eastern Roman Empire from 476 to 1453. Robin Pierson is an excellent narrator and podcaster, with a smooth British accent. He conveys the sometimes confusing information in an easy to grasp way....Read full review »

After binging mike Duncan’s the history of Rome, I’m so glad I was able to continue the binge with this podcast to see the Roman Empire from beginning to end. Looking forward to everything to come and interested to see how you will proceed after 1453

I started listening to history podcasts almost a year ago and amongst all the podcasts I listened to, The History of Bizantyum is on the podium (together with The History of the World Podcast and The History of Rome). However Robin’s podcast gets the first prize as a great surprise: I knew almost...Read full review »

It takes about 10 episodes to find its feet, but is worth sticking with. It’s consistently interesting and enjoyable. My one gripe is the amount of time spent away from the narrative at the end of every century. I appreciate questions being answered and additional information being provided, but...Read full review »

After listening to all of Mike Duncan’s Revolutions and History of Rome, I’m loving The History of Byzantium! As a social studies teacher to 14-15 year olds in Oklahoma, I usually find within this podcast some larger, overarching insights I can teach my students. So often, I’m trying to convince...Read full review »

When Robin started he sounded like a Mike Duncan fanboy. You can’t blame him. As the years past Robin came into his own, and at this point I believe he’s surpassed the august Mike.

This podcast it’s a time travel to one of the most underrated and forgotten by western history empire. The amount of information and detail that feels like you are part of the citizens of Constantinople. And always remember to love Belisarius

Was a nice podcast while the host was focused on it, but it’s slowed to the point that we won’t make the end until about 2033 at this rate. Great binge, but don’t expect much progress.

Almost mimicking its name sake it, in the fact that it emulates the past, but it also changes some stuff for better and worse, in some points it moves beyond the highest points of the predecessor. But in other ways it goes it moves below the lowest points of the predecessor. The ads in specific...Read full review »

Quality podcast about the Eastern Roman Empire after the Western Empire’s collapse in 476. Robin has put together an absolute masterpiece, and I’m grateful to him for helping me see the importance of this history and sparking my interest in learning more. Thank you Robin!

It honestly took me far too long to get into this show. I have been a long time listener of Mike Duncan and for some reason never gave the History of Byzantium a shot until about a year ago. It is well worth the listen. Robin Pierson has stayed true to Mike Duncan’s THoR style, but added some...Read full review »

I love this podcast. It is informative deep and interesting. Since signing with acast however the volume level on the ads has been ridiculous. If you want a direct sequel to the History of Rome, you can’t do better than this. This podcasts makes a relatively underappreciated period of history very accessible to anyone interested.

Robin has done a wonderful job in crafting a narrative in a time of history I was previously ignorant of. Following Mike Duncan’s History Of Rome, The History of Byzantium smoothly transitions into its own narrative. I highly recommend this podcast for its fascinating subject.

I started this podcast a few weeks ago after finishing history of room. It’s definitely been good content, but the sponsored ads have been BY ARAMCO! There was a question in comments on History of Byzantium website about the sources of financing. The question got deleted immediately without being answered. The author is biased and might potentially be paid to present facts in a specific light for a specific purpose.

If you're interested in the byzantines, or even just medieval history in general, you owe it to yourself to listen to this. Robin delivers the historical narrative but also digs deeper to ask and try and answer "why" things happened rather than just "what" happened. 5 stars.Read full review »

Awesome podcast so far, my only major problem is the podcaster puts Belisarius into a very bad light, when in fact he was one of the great lieutenants of his age. Otherwise, great job and looking forward to hearing more!!!

After I had finished both of Mike Duncan’s podcasts I found myself missing his concise and enjoyable breakdowns of history. When I stumbled onto this podcast, I was ecstatic to see somebody who was also a fan, writing in the same style (with their own flair). Would definitely recommend!

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a number of years now and it remains, without any contest, the best podcast around that focuses on a single state. This is the standard to which I hold all other history podcasts.
