“I loved the history of Rome and I had really wanted it to continue to the Fall of Constantinople. It's great that you are doing this podcast. I love Byzantine history and I wanted to leave some reading suggestions.
John Julias Norwich has written a three volume series on Byzantium that helped introduce me to the subject. They were Byzantium: The Early Centuries, Byzantium: The Apogee, and Byzantium: The Decline and Fall. All three were very interesting books.
There is also a book about how and why the east survived and the west fell. It talks about how the Byzantines adapted their military and tactics to the changing times. It is by Edward N. Luttwak and it is called The Grand Strategy of the Byzantine Empire.
One more book I would like to mention is by James J. O'Donnell. It is called The Ruin Of The Roman Empire. It focuses on the life and times of Theoderic the Ostrogoth and Justinian. The book offers a new view on how Justinian's reign caused major problems for the empire far into the seventh century.
Good luck with your podcast! I hope some of my reading suggestions are useful. Keep it up!”Read full review »

“Love the podcast. I like the amount of detail that Robin provides. Too many histories just cover the high points and those of us that know a lot of history want the juicy details.”
