“You ask the question "how can you not realize that if you dont take care of you, you cannot take care of those you love?"
Sometime you get so involved in caretaking that you forget about you. That happens very easily when tragic events happen. When a sudden trip to the hospital turns into a disabling illness that requires you to not only manage your very busy life, but now you have the responsibility of managing that person’s life. You suddenly have bills to take care of, medical decisions, the house and other things in their life that they can no longer do. Once that is over with and things begin to calm down, you realize that you have forgotten about you. In my case that process went on for almost 15 years. Hard to believe, maybe but mother started this with blood clots that caused amputation and asthma, requiring multiple trips to an emergency, then a father with cancer and a sister suddenly diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia who is a single mother with a 7 year old son. When you start out with support and then become the only one it is very easy to lose who you are, and you forget about you.
Thanks for all that you do.”Read full review »
