Inspiring, heartfelt and immensely rewarding
Every episode I’ve listened to has deeply moved me because of the honesty, and compassion that the hosts have for themselves and one another. As someone who was brought up in a closeted fundamentalist religion that taught me to fear my self, and other people, it’s heartwarming and life-affirming to hear people who have escaped similar experiences talking to each other with such love, understanding and depth. For anyone struggling with the destructive after-effects of religion, especially the doubt that it was even traumatic in the first place, these conversations help to validate the need for healing and how possible it is to heal and move forward with the power of self-compassion. Finding the language for story of my religious trauma has been a real struggle for me, partially because I’m still in denial about just how bad it was. The hosts and their guests are such great storytellers; which means their stories have helped me to find the words for my own, whilst making steps towards really ‘owning’ what I went through. A perfect example of this are the early episodes in which the hosts interview each other. I’m so grateful for the honesty, humour, and depth of understanding that’s evident in these conversations.

Trying to understand my history with evangelical culture feels messy and complex and overwhelming often. I’m so grateful for how Chuck and Brady offer new ways to think and process this part of my past.

Chuck, Brady, and the guests echo many similarities to my own journey of deconstuction/deconversion from evangelicalism. Through the thoughtful, funny, and difficult stories and conversations, I've realized my own freedom to explore and express my own explainations of my deconversion.Read full review »
