Dudes, I had to stop listening to this one. I speak as one who's heard them all and loved them. Your analysis of social media as though posters are actually thinking about what they're on about forgets that actually people aren't unhappy, they're missing meaning. There is no groundswell of popular opinion under us we don't understand; it's an old story of incoherence born of lacking the gumption to take the hits on the way to a life with less than three ensuites. And it isn't emergent. Twice static is still static. Trump won because he fitted his narrative to a 6% demographic cynically and got others to walk it back whenever it went so far his base gagged. Hilary didn't do that. What he does now is the usual US MO: all foreign policy is about money. He may or may not turn out well or badly, but how he got there doesn't relate to that at all. Fa-fa-fa-fa-fashion. 45%+6%=power. Perhaps if I keep listening your guest will slap you down. I hope so!Read full review »

How refreshing it is listening to The Minefield - no neat conclusions.

My favourite 40 mins of discussion (with podcast) each week. Unashamedly intelligent but accessible; an oasis (like RN generally) in a desert of inanity, profanity and base tribal punditry. Every episode a gem of thought and humour, and always with great guests.
