Mildly entertaining but not very useful
This is a casual chat between finance journos and it feels very much like that. If you're looking to educate yourself on finance: this is not the place. They do not explain things. If you're not aware of basic financial terms and current financial news: this is not for you. They talk about current events as if you know what they are and what they mean. If you're looking for up to date news: this is not the place. It's weekly and only covers a sliver of current events. If you're looking for fundamental analysis: this is not the place. They do not go in depth on any topic. If you're looking for technical analysis: this is not the place. I don't think either have a background in it and neither seem to have an interest in it. If you're looking for general advice: this is not the place. They are very careful to make no suggestions which is fair enough considering regulation. If you're looking for strong opinions: this is not the place. They might hold them but they certainly don't express them here. If you're looking for upcoming trends: this is not the place. They're fairly tradionalist/status quo. They sneer at trends. They only really go into things like crypto (newish) and ETF (20ish years now?) because they're forced to by listener questions and make it clear they haven't really looked into them. So who is this for? It's a sort of basic reassurance of general financial market stability for people who are monitoring current events but not really engaging heavily in anything. It's inconsequential chit chat for the already moderately informed.Read full review »

Thank you Alan and James. We love the money cafe, the whole family sits around the wireless (speaker) to glean the relaxed and enjoyable banter, keep up the good work.

Love the podcast but would be better if James could contain his enthusiasm and resist talking over the top of Alan - sometimes it’s really hard to hear what he is saying with the excitable interruptions of James ... otherwise love it !
