A chat on the stoop about the black community and swimming
I am a regular, happy listener of The Moth. I'm also 51, white, and I was raised in the south. We had segregated swimming, and I was raised with the certainty that Black people didn't swim because they didn't have the same buoyancy as white people. I really appreciated this episode. I appreciated learning the facts about how black bodies swim just as well as white bodies, but that there are historical prejudices that kept the Black community from developing swimming skills. I especially appreciated the commentary about black women's hair care and swimming. Thank you for bringing this episode to me. I learned a lot.Read full review »

I've only been a subscriber for a week or so and I'm already totally addicted. I love listening to these storytellers on my way to and from work. I've only found one or two that weren't that great. The rest were fantastic! Subscribe, you won't be sorry.Read full review »
