This podcast claimed to conduct its debates with civility. Not so. In the review of the US election Rudyard called Donald Trump corrupt, misogynistic, and racist. So much for civility.

Listened to Sept 20, 2024 Friday focus. The episode quickly reminded me why I stopped listening to the podcast and chose not to pay the paltry $25 to be a member. Rudyard Griffiths has great opinions and wonderful to listen to, but his constant, never-ending interruptions of Janice Stein’s...Read full review »

Grown up discussions on important issues of our time. Stimulating! Refreshing! Unique even.

I had been looking for a podcast like this for a long time. They go into complex, relevant topics with great speakers that provide nuance and allow listeners to make their minds. Too much of the media these days (big and small, left and right) is heavily editorialized and tries to avoid people...Read full review »

Rudyard is always paying lip service to the idea of civil and substantive debate, but I just listened to him accuse Janice of being a card carrying liberal and then cut her off so he could have the last word. As a long time listener, I know that the public has accused Rudyard of cutting off...Read full review »

March 18, 2024 was a terrible podcast. Of all the amazing people you could presumably find, you have a boring and inept person describing why Trump voters support Trump. His opponent was a clear partisan, who had most of the airtime and shared her personal view at every turn. Whereas the person...Read full review »

The moderator essentially took the side of the opposition in the latest podcast about a Gaza ceasefire towards the end. The fact is that Israel has been found to target civilians by several reputable organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the UN. Munk should apologize...Read full review »

This really saddens me as I was a big fan of the podcast. As other reviewers have said, unfortunately the progressive shift towards “dialogues” has completely undermined an otherwise interesting and unique format. Dialogues could maybe work if the moderator was willing to push the guest but as...Read full review »

The host is pathetically and willfully blind to what Israel is doing to Palestine. The recent podcast about a ceasefire was ridiculous. He weighs in as the “moderator” saying that “there is no proof that Israel is targeting civilians” while they cut off all basic needs for the population and have...Read full review »

I just listened to the debate on whether DEI trainings do more harm than good and I was disappointed that the opposing debater never addressed any of the proponent’s statements. Instead, she talked about other issues and continued to do so throughout the debate, never addressing the crux of the...Read full review »

Excited by the idea of this show but got half way through the “traditional marriage roles” episode and it devolved into a shouting match about “the data say this” vs “no it doesn’t, there’s no data that says that”. If I wanted that, I’d go watch Fox News. Take the time to describe what the...Read full review »

What is the point? The Gen Z debaters agreed on nearly everything! The debater supporting the resolution did not actually support it. Total waste of time

What is this Friday Focus show that they’re adding on here? It’s 30 minutes or less of geriatrics talking about topics that they’re completely out of touch with. Rudyard and Janice just babbling incoherent opinions/arguments in an echo chamber between themselves. It’s absolutely ridiculous and...Read full review »

Historically, Munk has done a good job of having balanced debates about controversial issues. But lately, they’re veering to one side of the political spectrum by putting out “conversations” that are not balanced or compelling. They’re just two typical Canadian mid-wits with varying degrees of...Read full review »

Why is Henry Kissinger given a platform to speak? Is there not consensus among reasonable people that history cannot ignore all the terrible things he did and simply pass it off as realpolitik.

The conversation titled Antisemitism I believe...was frustrating to hear you mock the “GREAT RESET” that is clearly trying to happen calling it conspiracy theory ....shame on you. The overlay of an in-show ad, mid podcast, over the voice of a guest is incredibly annoying and makes me want to never subscribe.// Janice is the most consistently great thinker on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that I’ve heard. May people everywhere learn of Sergei Magnitsky’s brave sacrifice and Bill Browder’s enduring promise to his friend. One day, with hope and political will, every country will have adopted its own Magnitsky Act. “Red Notice” — required reading for our time.

The debates are great. But it’s always trying to push some stupid remembers only podcast that I don’t want. And it refers to individual episodes as “pods” which is so dorky. Could be much better.

Scott was over all great. But as a professor of marketing he sometimes spins his own reality. In this episode on Munk he largely does a great service to our nation. I really used to like the Munk Debates, mostly because of its even handed approach to each topic. Unfortunately, the last couple of seasons have brought a new format, turning the discussion much further one sided and left leaning.

One only has to consider their choice of Maggie Haberman (CNN, New York Times) to discuss the US election after beginning their episode with a recognition that media is problematic in its divisive partisanship. The Munk Debates launders far right corporatist ideology through a debate format. They frame debates in a pro right wing narrative that benefits billionaires like founder like Peter Munk who wanted to destroy the public sector.

Careful thoughtful debate. Such a rare bird right now. More of this. I learn from both sides and my understanding gets clearer. And that allows us to pursue solutions that actually work.

Munk is afflicted with the common virus of insisting on faux "balance", instead of seeking truth. Often will host the most odiously dishonest ideological warriors for an issue, squared off against acutal subject matter experts or scientists.Read full review »

Best podcast I’ve found in the genre. Whether in debate or interview format the moderator is prepared but not promoting his personal agenda. Rather he gets great insights from amazing public intellectuals. Civility sans outrage is so welcome and so needed.
