This is clearly a labor of love by a professional historian who is also an excellent presenter. I have enjoyed the many episodes I have listened to but I sometimes get lost in the details and asides. Occasional episodes laying out larger themes in Canadian history would really facilitate...Read full review »

I am a recent immigrant from the behemoth to the south and found podcasting through this series. I am on Episode 175 (current and waiting for each week’s feed). I’m going to ace the citizenship exam in a couple of years. I listen to the History of the Germans and this podcast and they are both...Read full review »

An excellent, ambitious, detailed and balanced walk through Canadian history. One of the best history podcasts that I’ve found anywhere.

Fantastic history podcast that gets deeply into the interaction between Native people & Europeans — not because the podcast is specifically about First Nations, but because they play such a huge & active role in early Canadian history. Very different from early US history, & much more...Read full review »

I’m on episode 10, really enjoying this! Very engaging.

I get that all podcasts are presented from a perspective. But I turned this off after the introductory episode. There was just too much kissing of Trudeau’s feet and waxing eloquent about how wonderful Liberals are, compared to those vile xenophobes (i.e., everyone else).

This podcast is well done - the entire history of Canada is chronological order, told in bite-sized pieces. Impressive, entertaining and educational. Started at the beginning and working my way through.

Well done, Mr. Koebel, I am only at episode 4 but am Seriously Impressed. The school history curriculum, or what my kids like to call “corn, squash and beans studies” lacks the dynamism and complexity that you have added. As keen watchers and listeners of horrible histories, the UK based history...Read full review »

There are many different history podcasts and styles. This one suits me just right. He is amd amazing storyteller and the weaving of narratives is impressive. I have learned so much and I especially learned a lot about the Buffalo, NY the area I grew up in. I always thought there was more to the...Read full review »

Informative and entertaining. I have learned more about the founding of my native land from this podcast than I ever did in twelve years of school. A great thirty minutes every week. Highly recommended.

A spectacular history of Northern North America. A major undertaking that walks a fine line between academic and popular historical inquiry. As an American that lives within miles of the border, I wish I’d found it sooner!

This is my favorite history podcast, possibly rivaled only by his other podcast on Stuart England. It’s a deep dive into the history of Canada presented in digestible and well-paced episodes that craft a compelling story and present a lively, human depiction of the events described.
