The most essential listening
A friend unironically asked me recently to “sell” them on this podcast after I told them they had to listen as it’s become my & my family’s favorite. I said, “so it’s a decidedly leftist podcast from two guys about our age on collapse (environmental, societal, etc), survival, developing hands on skills to survive. They talk about soil quality, landscape, history, ideology, prepping & survival, what could come next…” Before I could go on & despite my redundancies, they responded that I’d already sold them. My partner & I have long been radically involved, but Poor Proles Almanac has become indispensable as we’ve began seriously towards adopting skills & means to survive increasing hostilities. I know we’re not unique in this or the fact that, facing escalating disasters (climate, political, medical, etc etc), we don’t know as much as we thought. We discuss episodes often, it’s informing our daily life & how we plan & hope to move forward. Though we’ve had community gardening & seed bombing experiences, we didn’t actually know much about soil health or proper seed storage. Moving halfway across the country, we hadn’t considered alternative energies or ways to access & purify water. We’d read the Bread Book many times- but what does it look like when applied to societal collapse in 2021 & beyond? We hadn’t really grasped collapse & survival before becoming listeners of this podcast. I hope this & all the other 5 star reviews also encourages you, I hope any fear & despair gnawing at you leads to becoming an avid listener. I hope what Poor Proles are putting out there changes, encourages, & guides us. I am sure though, for whatever it may be worth & for however long any of us may have, this podcast is as essential as it gets. Don’t sleep on it-we’re all we’ve got.

This podcast helped my find my optimism in people again. The idea of and focus on building community as a foundation for resilience is indispensable. The breadth of knowledge available and being shared still blows my mind. I feel like I’ve been able to move from climate grief as an end state to...Read full review »

Would not have assumed that podcast with this title would quickly become my favorite ”garden” podcast. Tackles important issues and has science based non-looney take on permaculture, growing your own food and prepping.
