Surprising & eye opening
I’m aware of the welfare queen myth and how false, unfair & racist it is. But I was not aware of the real people behind the story, not the titular “welfare queen” and certainly not the journalist who coined the term. I found his story and how it tied in to the perpetuation of this myth extremely fascinating.

More reviews of One Year
Informative and (at times) poignent, One Year takes a look at seveal different stories from the year 1977. It's episodic, which is a nice change from all the serialized non-fiction shows. For me this is one of the best shows of 2021. A must listen.Read full review »

Amazing subject matter. Unfortunately this podcast leaves much to be desired and does not tell the whole story and is very unsatisfying. Either the author / host after six years of research hasn’t gotten to the bottom of Linda Taylor’s story, or the rest of the story is in his book. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m aware that his podcast is a companion piece to a book but wow, this little series is EXTREMELY lacking.
