If you know this story already, you already know the twists in the heartbreaking tale of Jar Jar Binks’ actor Ahmed Best. What makes the podcast more worthwhile is the framing of Best as ‘the internet’s first main character’, and uncovering the familiar patterns that we see online today that...Read full review »

Thanks for doing this Dylan. I had fun listening to this cast. I lost a family member last week. It’s been interesting for me to see how different people dealt with the loss of this wonderful man. I disagree, jar jar was a very real character as silly as he is. Real people are unbelievable at...Read full review »

Overly precious and contemplative and in need of some editing. Good interviews with Best and others. Could have been condensed to a This American Life segment

Of the theory that Jar-Jar is actually the ultimate Sith Lord? And his antics are a way to disarm his marks? They think he's a harmless, clumsy idiot, and allow him close, which is when he uses his sith mind control.Read full review »

Jar Jar is my 9 year old son’s favorite character, he thinks he’s hilarious!

This was absolutely captivating. I knew some of the history about the actor who played Jar Jar, but did not know the extent of it. As a millennial Star Wars fan, the prequels were a big deal for me, and as stated in the show, George Lucas made Jar Jar for the kids (like me). The evolution of that...Read full review »

I started this because I am a Star Wars fan but consumed it in two days because I am an even bigger fan of people who overcome overwhelming challenges. This was a story told with intelligence and compassion. I recommend it to everyone.

Ian under the impression that everybody wants to make a podcast and to emphasize nothing for a lot. Simple pleasures a re the best! Keep it short, meaningful and we’ll all thrive!

Learning more about Ahmed Best and what he was forced to endure in the wake of the Jar Jar Binks early internet vitriol is beautifully told. I really enjoyed the podcast, and the humanity it gave to the people involved. The only complaint I have is the refusal on the part of the host to admit...Read full review »

Thank you for sharing the story of Ahmed Best. I am so moved by the loving way you treated everyone you interviewed for this podcast. I want to see this as a play on Broadway. You are on to something here. Kindness and thoughtfulness can be propagated and taught as much as any hate and vitriol...Read full review »

To start things off, I liked Dylan’s “People That Hate Me” podcast and l GET IT. However, I don’t necessarily agree with the premise “If someone is offended, something offensive was done.” Some people can be hypersensitive, and can read their own agenda onto a blank page. Isn’t that what a...Read full review »

It contains multitudes. They go into so many more subjects and talk to do many more people than I expected. It really really touched me and helped me see a huge piece of my cultural past with new and thoughtful light. Thank you. I am sorry and thank you.

As someone who enjoys Star Wars and cringes at the internet community’s broad and quick judgements of art, this has been such a valuable deep dive. Thank you for making it!

I have never seen Star Wars (now I want to) but I absolutely love this story about the internet.

The topic is interesting, but like a lot of podcasts these days, the writing is drawn out and tedious at times. A tighter edit would make it much better.

Bravo and thank you, Ahmed and Dylan. I was sucked in from Dylan's NPR's interview, have binge listened to the first 3 episodes and recommended to friends, family and colleagues in the podcasting industry.Read full review »

Wow
Oh my god I love this actor so much now that I get to hear his vibe and how it all went down. I wasn't ever a Jar Jar hater but I had friends who were for sure. I was a kid though and as he says, the kids will love it. Fantastic pdcast.Read full review »
