Disappointed
Listened to every episode of the PPP, the Silmarillion season several times, and I absolutely love it. This, I almost can’t listen to anymore. Almost refusing to criticise except a few “cringey” or “that was interesting” bits. The show is written as if by children with no coherency or consistency in stakes in situations or motivation for characters. The same people who praise Tolkien for being a literary genius with his use of language and setting up a rich story chastise the Jackson adaptations for the changes he made(the hobbit was awful), but refuse to criticise RoP no matter how far Amazons writers stray from the core material. Where has the integrity of the Tolkien community gone? What are they scared of? Flat out bad writing, storytelling and often even bad acting is excused as “interesting”. Trying to mash in every single movie/tv-trope or cliche and some characters/places just happen to have names out of Tolkien's appendices. The biggest insult of all is them indirectly saying the only way a female character can be good/cool/well structured is if they have stereotypical male features and cliches. Imagine reading Tolkien and thinking “how can I improve this?” This isn’t adapting. This is ripping the soul out of a great man’s work leaving less of a dead corpse than Fëanor.Read full review »

Comparing this to most social media discussions shows the amount of ennoblement...Read full review »

I love listening to podcasts when I am working around the house. I’ve listened to 6 different podcasts on TROP. This one is by far the best. Three insightful people that are Tolkien experts with good conversational chemistry about both the show and the books.
